    Animal testing

Just read a bit of this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4509862.stm

And was wondering what you guys think of animal testing?

Honestly.. I don't have a problem with it, I feel sorry for the animals that have to go through with it, especially if it's painful, but in the end it benefits all of us, and a lot of us wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for us been able to test on animals.

    Personally...i thinks it's SICK.

I mean anyone who could do this to a helpless animal should die ...

I think its fine for medical reasons, but should be done in a humane a way as possible. When viable alternatives become available then it should stop, but that is not possible now. I also think that saying all people who carry out such research should die is taking it a bit far!

its just a case of suffereing for the animals. its not even instant death. and they cant do anything about it. they cant speak out for themselves or defend them selves, its just a case of having to put up with it for them, and i think that is wrong. we get cancer and so do animals, but unfortunatly animals are the one who are been used to find cures, so they are basically purpasly been given cancer so scientist can try and get rid. i cant personally think of an alternative, but im sure other people can, scientists ect. Also, zoos; i do go to zoo's, but since i leart about animal right and vivisection it has definatly put me off. Animals such as tigers walk the same tracks everyday as a sign of boardem. It makes the animals mental; elephants rub their heads against thing til they bleed, they swing their trunks constantly. And the amount of space they have is rediculas. Plus in most cases, the climate is completely different from their natural habbitat.
But this is just my opinion, im sure others differ ...

[ sorry about all the spelling mistakes ... ]

    good idea deluded guy! haha.

no i dont use medicine, i sometimes use paracetemal though. My grandad died of cancer ... nothing saved him, and thats after years of animal testing. My sisters mate died of lukeimea [sp] nothing saved him. So yeah it may work on some drungs. But is it really working for the vital ones after all these years? Plus, so what if something works in a rabbit/monkey, dosn't necceseraly mean it would work on humans. Just like that drug that came out in the 60's for pregnant women to stop pains. Turns out all women who took that drug, there baby came out with some sort of deformaty. Makes you think dosnt it ...

Actually Thalidomide is still prescribed today, its one of the most effective drugs for the treatment of leprosy, its also used to treat aids and some cancers. It affected the child if a dose was taken by the mother during a specific 6 days of the pregnancy.

After your comment about people involved in animal testing, I hope you have the courage to abstain from treatment if you become ill. As to your pictures, well I could be really nasty and find some nice shots of people with leprosy if you want, or maybe syphilis or some of the other really nasty diseases than can be treated with drugs developed using animal testing.

Have you ever been to a testing lab ?

I have , and not on an official visit. It was clean and the staff there where not the sadistic ghouls you'd like to think they where.

I believe that the research is done for the greater good and that everyone ( including non humans) benefits ( especially from better vetenary care )

as the Joker said," you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs."
