I still dont agree with banning it. And am not at all persuaded by statistics, I did lots in my dissertation an you can make black look white using them. A friend died a few years ago (he smoked) of lung cancer he was in his early 40's, doctors thought it was down to the jobs he had done not smoking. Also he died quiet quick so the cost to the NHS was very little where as old people cost a fortune, all those hip ops, spare teeth etc. If I go to a pub and the only seats are in a smoking section I go someplace else. Also banning smoking would probably be political suicide, lots of smokers and not many people who vote. Best thing to stop kids smoking is make it a criminal offence and chop their fingers off if they are caught smoking.

Alcohol only kills you if you drink too much, but that's like anything, too much is bad. Cars don't kill you. It's the PEOPLE behind the wheel that kill you.

Cars do kill, fumes, ozone layer, pollution, crashes, etc. And fags dont kill its just the people behind them. Alcohol does kill as well also doubles your risk of rectal cancer, ouch, breast cancer and costs the NHS an estimated £3billion a year (thast from Alcohol Concern)

OK, cars do kill, but mostly when misused. Unless you have some sort of statstic as for how many people in the last year have died from exhaust fumes, ozone layer erosion and pollution, we won't be able to say how many direct deaths there are from these things.

Alcohol kills when taken to excess. Not many people become ill from 'normal' consumption. Alcohol costs the NHS money due to the people who do drink to excess. Cigarettes are terrible things by comparison.

The argument about not making tobacco class A.....
What about ecstasy? Not many people die from ecstasy by comparison to the number who take it. it isn't as dangerous as crack or heroin..... Shall we make ecstasy class b or c then?

    Just got this quote
Car pollution effects us all and will kill some of us and some of our children! Approx 10,000 people in Britain die each year from illness resulting from traffic-related poison. Vehicle- Drivers are not immune they breathe in 3 times more toxic fumes than pedestrians.
    Take a look here
    http://www.geoexplorer.co.uk/section...fpollution.htm

They reckon that diesels cause the early deaths of between 2,000 and 10,000. Problem is that everybody has different stats.

or this 1 for sommit from HMG
    http://www.parliament.the-stationery.../71/71ap09.htm
all clearly show that car pollution causes more deaths than crashes.

You have to take into account the number of people taking these drugs flibb. Nearly everyone drinks. Less than 1/2 smoke and a relative minority take illegal drugs. What about passive smoking?

Smoke once, you might cough your guts up but you'll live. Take heroin once and you could die right there. Class A/B Drugs are more dangerous imo because they're un-regulated, you have no idea what they're cut with unless you grow/make them yourself.

Im quite lucky that the club i goto has very few smokers, probably because there on somthing else, but thats another thread.
Young people at school etc. are i think one of the groups that snoke more than any other. If you look at college and other people our age fewer of them smoke than the number of people that smoked at school. Gradually i think people are catching on that its not cool.

But hash is only class c and I have been told what crap is put in there to cut it! You wouldn't smoke has again if you knew. You'd also class 'a' it!

Heroin will not kill you first time, but it doesn't take long to take hold of you. Only solvents can kill instantly really. Except for an overdose, but then anything would kill you if you overdosed!

So why are people still taking it up, even when they know its bad for them at an older age ?

Apparently 300 people a year die from lung disease from passive smoking, this doesent include heart disease though, odd they couldnt have stats for that as it comes from an anti smoking website. About 1/4 of UK adults smoke so about 13,000,000.

Illegal drugs is another issue, imo smoking should be illegal in a perfect world but there's no way that's ever gonna happen or be able to be implemented. Instead the government should take steps like this to reduce it.

They should also increase tax on cigarette's till it costs about a tenner per packet of 10, when people can't afford to smoke as much as they did they will be forced to reduce/quit, especially as the less well off smoke more. Obviously for this to work there should be tighter custom controls etc to stop cheaper cigarettes comming from abroad. The extra tax revenue could then go towards preventing people from taking up smoking and the NHS.

I'd ban it in public places, if people choose to smoke at home, thats fine. I hate going to clubs and coming home stinking of smoke.

I think more pressure should be put onto pubs and clubs etc to ban it in. Maybe a pertition type thing, ban it or we leave, vote with your money. It worked locally to me, pub installed a smoking area and got ventillation.
