Ban the pubs then, then you wont have to ban smoking within them. Two birds, and one stone...

BAN it ALLLLLLLL wahey. Car drivers are infringing my rights as a pedestrian, i am infringing the cyclists rights as I drive past. The I go and havea few pints that costs the NHS £50 and deprives some bod of having a sommit done to him on the NHS. We all make a decision on what we think is morally acceptable, smoking in all carriages on a train isnt on, BUT banning it from the one remaining carriage where its allowed also isnt on. Like I said if you go into a smokey pub and dont like it go someplace else, thats what I do as a nonsmoker. Sure you have a right to be there, but so does the smoker.

.... banning it would be the most unintelligable thing the government would ever have done. would mean open war on them really :/

Why stop there ? why not stop cars emitting fuels ? its stupipd, pointless and pathetic. if people dont like smokers lighting up, walk away from them, its their choice to kill themselves slowly. if this law passes, a new govt. will be in within the hour.

You cant really compare cars to smoking, theres quite a difference as allready pointed out in this thread.
Why should i walk away from them anyway ?, why cant they realise that they could be killing somone and walk away from them ?. Time to get my axe out again i think and see how fast they move then.

First of all, I'm a smoker, so my response is going to be bias...

I agree that there're places that there should be no smoking - movie theaters, shopping malls, shops, museums, offices, trains, the Tube, etc... However, I don't agree with banning smoking in all public areas. The reason? (Aside from the fact that I want to sneak out for a cigarette from time to time...) Banning smoking is primarily on health grounds, so just how healthy is breathing in the lovely pulluted air of London, or the Underground, or a shopping mall near Heathrow? If banning smoking is really health grounds then driving should be banned and the Underground should be stopped and all air traffic over the UK should be stopped also.

Now, you're going to tell me: You can't do that! That's the nation's economic life! We can't stop that! Well, if public transport is better, people may be less stressed and smoke less. And let's be fair here - smokers are an excellent tax revenue source for the government. Ok, I agree that a lot of the money has gone back into treating smoking related diseases. However, unless someone can produce official numbers suggesting otherwise, I'm convinced that smokers are actually paying for other people's health treatments.

If banning smoking in public areas is on both a health ground and also a social backdrop, the government should ban drinking also. Again, unless it can be proved othewise, I'm stating that the drinkers cost the NHS just as much money, both as primary health treatment related to alcohol abuse as well as a result of accidents taken place under the influence of alcohol. Also, people don't go pick a fight after a few cigarettes - but lots of people think they're invincible after a few drinks and do go out and pick fights.

Banning smoking from public areas is an actual act of human right violation. Smokers are being picked on. On balance of things, smokers do not cause any more harm to others than pullutions and drinkers.

i think smoking should be like alcohol...
legal at home or designated places... nowhere in public...
im not going into the whole " its sick and nasty " cause its pointless...
all i think is.. i used to suffer frrom asthma its calmed down loads now... but.. when i useed to stand at a bus stop next to some one smoking it used to kill me.... and i wold be coughing for hours afterwords.... all say is.. make the age higher... make it illegal for public smoking... if u really need to go smoke surely u can make the effort to go somewhere private ???
