Sorry I didn't reply in a couple of days! Yeah, it sounds fishy, but I did infact get my ipod. I'm listening to it now :- )

In fact, all of my conversations for the past three/four days have been 'How much do you think this cost me'

The real answer is about 5 friends...

No, they're still talking to me. I owe them much beer now :- )

Why is this allowed on the forums anyway, I thought pyramid schemes weren't allowed?
Well, it would be a good way to get people to signup and do offers with my referral ids, but it's completely random. You're welcome to see the code as we're re-writing the conga thing into Ruby on Rails (from PHP) - you're also welcome to see the database, but you'd have to come round here (Southend in Essex) AND sign a disclosure to the data protection act. Otherwise you're welcome :- )

I have to warn you, my 1337 coding skills are, well, not 1337. But it as random as I can make it in PHP. Obviously the more people who signup, the less mine gets shown.

I already have my ipod mini (so I don't have a link on there), and I've not bothered to signup to the other offers yet... the only other one I'm on is the mini imac, and that's not on the system at present.

You're right about trust though, I could quite easily abuse these systems, sell your data to spammers etc, but I like to think some people in the world have morals...

I'm off to spend my ill gotten gains down the local casino with the hookers I picked up this afternoon. Ciao.

Now, anyone with a little knowledge could do this, and before you know it, we're all going to this iPod site with his referral and he's getting lots of iPods free... perhaps?

Not saying it is, but saying it could.
    Sorry about the multiple posts...

Hi Allen, feel free to disrespect me as much as you like. I'm quite thick skinned

The only site that had referral links must have been the test.alt-gallery site. I apologise if you went through the process of signing up and were presented a link! Unfortunately the freeipod link was not for me, it was for who ever signed up first on the list. The freeipod T&C states you can only get one free ipod mini per household. Otherwise I'd be in the ipod retail business on ebay...

Again, as in my last post, you're welcome to view my hasty and nasty code and DB if you conform to the data protection act and sign a non disclosure agreement.

Otherwise I can't be more open about this! :- )

Cool, how long did it take from when you first signed up? And what exactly did you have to do to get it?

I think there's 2 main versions of this going around... one, like FreeIpods.com, which gets you to sign up one of their affiliates services, and refer 5 people, and others which purely ask you to send them £20... some of the former have been investigated by some news sites and seem to be legit, and seem to be just the right side of a pyramid scheme. On the other hand, the other sites, where you pay £20 to be put on a list to get an iPod, or mobile phone, or whatever, is very much a pyramid-type scheme, and should be avoided at all costs. After all, if you sign up for a DVD rental scheme, then you're getting something worthwhile out of it, so the 4/5 who don't earn a free iPod aren't getting ripped off, just not getting a freebie. With the other sites, 4/5 are just ripped off for their £20.

ive seen the sites which give you free laptops, ive been tempted just to sign myself up, or evan pay mates to sign up, just beacause it ends up costing about £240 to get a £1000 laptop, it was at that point i thought it must be a scam.

As to the automatic conga, I had it running for several months but it never really took off. It didn't help you signup, it just helped you get referrals without spamming the forums!

These days I just use my www.xbox3604free.co.uk and donate all the proceeds to charity = )
