My Final, final build line up unless.....Your thoughts please

    A couple of questions,

    Will it all fit?

Will it run cool enough in this size case?

Most important factors to me are Speed, quiet, did I mention speed....?

I look forward to your comments good or bad.......hopefully?

Re: My Final, final build line up unless.....Your thoughts please

How much is the processor and motherboard, and what use is it for? would a i7 2600k not be better considering its nearly as fast? and a third of the price from memory.

Also the motherboards are triple channel on the 1366 boards, so 4X4gbs is a waste of money, drop to 6 or 12. Better yet a 2600k.......

The 1200w PSU is also totally overkill I would suspect the build would run on a 850w PSU since you only running 560s.

You would be far better with a 2600k and 2 X 580s with cash to spare. See were I'm going with this lol?

Re: My Final, final build line up unless.....Your thoughts please

He's already got the CPU+MB as a bundle. But yes you'll want Triple channel memory, so either 3x2GB or 3x4GB depending on need. You will be paying a large premium for the corsair dominator ram cooling thing for little to none real world performance.

The H70 is also not a particularly quiet cooler.

The PSU is overkill, if you were SLI'ng 580s then that wouldn't be a bad choice. If that MB supports xfire then I'd recommend dual 6950s with an AX850 (or equivalent) as a PSU. Samsung F3 is cheaper, quieter and just as fast as the WD. Personally I would go for an Intel SSD over an OCZ, better reliability and warranty though thats just a personal choice.

    16gb = overkill
    1200w = massive massive overkill

16gb, well yeh it is a bit

    1200w not overkill, futureproofing

ram fans are usefull when all the ram slots are full, i have a sensor on mine and didnt like them going over 50 degrees b4 the fan cut in.

Well it totally is overkill for that setup
You could just as easily say that 16gb is futureproofing

I guess that makes sense with the ram as there would be no airflow on the inside modules.

Re: My Final, final build line up unless.....Your thoughts please

1200W is future proofing, some nice GPU's out there (at £600ish for a later day)

4x4GB was a kit it was only £30ish more than 12Gb so worth it to me.

As for GPU's I'm not sure which route to go X2 560/580's or 6950's flashed to 6970 or a single highend & wait until the price drops & get a second.

I have no experiance of water cooling if the H70 isn't quiet could somebody please suggest an alternative.

    The 990x & mobo are £370 (I couldn't pass it up) or I would have waited for BD/x79 2011.

Will have a look at intel ssd's thanks

As for the RAM fan it's only £16 & there is a lot going on in the case, more cooling can only help

Re: My Final, final build line up unless.....Your thoughts please

As mentioned the ram you have picked is not triple channel, you need three bits of ram so either 6 or 12gb. You will take a performance hit by running 4 but if its noticeable or not is another question.

Nice price on the 990x bundle. Think I'd of snapped whoever's hand it was off also.

tbh 1200w is more than you need if there is a big sli upgrade later you can just keep the psu. With the ram though you can buy less now and add more if you feel you need it.

£s spent on graphics card will give the biggest gaming performance increase, especially next to ram.

I agree about the PSU it is over kill, GPU's are getting mighty power hungry also I shouldn't ever need another.
As daft as it sounds it will fit my case no problem

Yes gpu's are getting massively power hungry, however still not that hungry for a dual upper-mid range cards.
An 850w corsair AX or Seasonic X series would be better.

Corsair H80 (£85) and H100 (£95) might be worth checking out. Not sure how much quieter they are, but should give you better cooling if you're overclocking a 990X.

Re: My Final, final build line up unless.....Your thoughts please

I have two of the Corsair AX 1200W's and they are indeed a fantastic unit. Unfortunetly I'm only running them with my AMD 64 4000+ rig and an AMD XP2600 at the moment until I can get my two i7 rigs built up into cases!! Sadly I have to wait maybe 3 weeks for the cases to come through!

What resolution are you going to be using with the system? I would definitely have thought a GTX 580 would be the way to go and I would definitely suggest a water cooling setup of some sorts with the 990X.. I see your going to use the H70, but why not consider something a little better?
