I'd prefer to spend nearer to £500 if I can get 60fps on games like bf4 on low/med, thief on low/med, titanfall, most current and upcomming games on low/med really

i will be upgrading in the future, thanks pal!

doubt I could get a cheaper card and still get what I want though and r9 280x is only slightly better that gtx 760 but costs alot more.

Re: first pc build please review!

If you only need 550W then I've just recommended someone a 550W XFX Pro - 5 year warranty, SeaSonic internals, decent 528W on the 12V rail and can be had for £45 (I got mine for £40, so you never know when you might get lucky ). It's not modular mind you, and is only Bronze rated for efficiency, but would save you a couple of quid over the CS 550 that you could put into your system elsewhere.

You could also consider the 650W XFX Pro at the same price point as the CS650.

Whatever the case, if you're considering these see what others think too - there are people far more knowledgeable than me on these boards - I'm still a newbie! xD

Been putting this everywhere today but it's a great resource:
    http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page625.htm

edit: Just noticed - XFX PSUs are on scans day only deals today. Might be worth checking out?

edit again xD: So are Be Quiet and Silverstone ones, I don't know anything about those brands though so can't say good or bad either way.

On Scan it certainly is by about 5 pounds, and overall I have to agree.

The clock speeds look to be in favour of the 4 core part, but in lightly threaded games the 6 core can turbo to 4.1GHz, the 4 core to 4.3GHz so there is only a whisker in it. When heavily threaded you get 6 cores at 3.5 vs 4 cores at 4.2 giving the 6 core part about 25% more grunt.

The FX chips are all unlocked so easy to overclock. Hardcore overclocking might be scary but the small bump from 6300 to 4350 speeds is very likely to succeed. OTOH, if you get the 4 core part then you can't ever unlock more cores on it.

So I also would go the FX6300 route over the FX4350.

thank you! I'll let you all know how I get on should I go with the ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo? is everything compatible with Corsair VS-450W PSU and Powercolor Radeon R9 270X DEVIL edition?

Re: first pc build please review!

Looks like a solid mobo to me, although since you're looking at overclocking, you should possibly see if you can get one with VRM heatsinks or you'll be fairly limited in mosfet dissipation.

Everything will be compatible with that power supply and GPU.

Re: first pc build please review!

I would not touch the VS450W with a bargepole.

This RAM would do the job:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-BLT2...words=8GB+DDR3

    I would get this PSU:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-ATX-550-...&keywords=550w

Since you are not overclocking the XFX PRO 450W should be fine, but you would need a molex to PCI-E power converter(might come with the card).

    Edit!!

This motherboard costs a bit more than the LE but has VRM cooling:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A97-R2-0-M...words=asus+970

OTH,the EVO is a pretty solid motherboard for overclocking.

Re: first pc build please review!

The XFX PRO 550W would be fine for any decent card if you are not overclocking.

However I would be quick and get this card:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...132_HotUKDeals

That is flipping cheap for an R9 280X.
