Re: first pc build please review!

This is the motherboard I have: http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A97-EVO-R2.../dp/B008RPZ5H8

As I said before, VRM is more like the one on the sabretooth than the LE (not just the LE with heatsinks).

Beyond that to the 990 chipset only makes sense if you intend going crossfire which I have never bothered with.

I notice Amazon have the CPU cheaper than Scan as well. http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX6300-E.../dp/B009O7YORK

Did you check out that R9 280X for £200?? Although I would probably get the XFX PRO 550W for that.

The Crucial RAM is pretty decent for the price too.

It looks fine. The advantage of going for the XFX PRO 550W is that is has the two PCI-E power connectors already from the PSU. The XFX PRO 450W has only one,so you will need to use a molex to PCI-E power connector.

Have you considered the Bitfenix Merc Alpha case:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/BitFenix-Mer.../dp/B005JRICNG

There is also the Bitfenix Comrade case too:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...362&catid=1850
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...362&catid=1850

The cases can take upto 30CM long graphics cards.

Re: first pc build please review!

the xfx pro 550w has 2 pci-e connectors, generally I'd advise getting a psu with the correct number of pci-e connectors for the card you want to use, mainly because hooking up molex can get messy in terms of cables.

Have a look at the zalman Z12 and z5 cases
The Coolermaster K-280 isn't too bad as a cheap option too

edit: here's another Xigmatek MIDGARD II, a slightly older design but still a great case for the money http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xigmatek-Mid.../dp/B00664IEES

Re: first pc build please review!

Those MSI boards have a pretty poor power deliver setup (4+1 phase without heatsink) and have been known to throttle the FX CPUs.

For £50, the Gigabyte 970a DS3P is a better option - fine for a FX-6300 if you don't intend to overclock.

Re: first pc build please review!

You could probably get a small overclock on an FX-6300 with the DS3P, but for anything more you would want that Asus, or the Gigabyte UD3P.

You won't get much of an overclock on stock fan anyway - you would want to look at an aftermarket cooler.
