    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

It has been a batch problem which is fixable in the bios. If you pm your address address Rob i'll forward through the latest bios. We're had mixed results on the newest but it does seem to resolve the memory loss issue for the vast majority. It has left us with a couple of other bugs to iron out in use though, which we're working through currently.

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

Although I am not an owner of a Scan computer, I have been scouring the interned trying to find an answer for the missing ram in my machine. I have RMA'd both the board and memory, and tried several types of ram that are listed in the QVL. No dice. I would LOVE it if someone could send me a link to the 0506 bios, with the understanding that I am not going to come back and bitch and moan if it all goes wrong. I just really want to get this thing working. Help a guy out!

PS. I have the Kingston 12gb 3 DIMM kit and have tried all released bios flashes.

Razor Blade - The Bios beta's we have, have been specficly tweaked for the Corsair ram we carry and use in systems. The good news for you through, is that a lot of memory makers use the same ic's and ram chips as each other, so it may just work for you.... and I supose if it's already broken then it can't get any worse.

Fire me a PM if you can otherwise an E-mail to my username with co.uk on the end of it and I'll send you over the beta we have here.

Thanks Pete, I've received the BIOS from one of your colleagues via a support email and it does seem to have sorted the RAM issue but it is still a little unstable on default settings. We're getting the occasional blue screen crash. I have the system specific OC settings but not had time to input them yet, are these likely to stabilise the system (I'm skeptical)?

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

    Happy Christmas to every one

I am still getting the odd change from 6gb to 4gb so I decided to load the standard settings for a couple of weeks to see if it happens on these settings. now i have two problems, first i have found that the clock speed and miltiplier keep changing from 2857mhz and x20 to1716mhz x12 ( using cpu-z monitor ). Never came across this on the OC settings, and now when I try to load the OC settings all I get is BSOD and window repair doe not want to play. the last beta you sent me is 0503 and I think you have a newer version if you could send me that and all my OC settings please.
    order number E1494290, Thanks.

Methinks I should have left it bloody well alone!

    Hi Rob,

When you flash the bios it sets everything back to default so it's entirely possible that one of those settings is causing the problem. Take a crack at putting your settings back in again and see how it goes. I think you should have more luck with it all once you do.

    Hi B.E.A.N,

As mentioned above going back to the defaults can cause some strange side effects. In this instance the defaults have turned back on the power saving features that we disable when overclocked and what your seeing there is the motherboard underclocking the cpu when it's not required to run at full load. It'll be fixed once the original settings are placed back in.

I need to speak to the build manager when he get's back from lunch and I'll make sure I fire the 0506 bios over to you, with a copy of the original settings that are being used by the build guys currently.

    Thanks pete
I changed the power settings to high and that sorted out the little prom, once I get the bios and settings I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes when you get back after the xmas break.

Good stuff, and hopfully the bios update will be productive for you. I'm away now until the 4th but Sanj and Ben are here over the Xmas period (minus the bank hols) so one of them should be able to help you guys out with any developments. Ben will check on here I'm sure but if your stuck a quick mail to the normal system support address should get you a response in good time.

    Cheers,

    Hi
I've just joined this forum specifically because I has a similar problem and finally fixed it this evening. Aged 61 so am not up to date with all the technical stuff but I've just finished building my latest PC with i7 950, Asus P6X58D-E motherboard, Antec PSU, 3 x 2GB Crucial RAM, Win 7 64 bit, etc, etc and guess what, I could only get the BIOS to recognise 4 GB of the 6GB of RAM! First time I've ever had this problem.

Tried reseating the RAM, updating the BIOS, moving the RAM around in slots A1, B1 and C1 and although they would all work singly showing 2GB and also up to 4GB, they would not show more than 4GB whatever. Tried calling Crucial but they were still on holiday.

Bet you'll never guess what cured it. Decided to remove the CPU (brand new) and inspect the pins with a magnifying glass. No, they were not bent but it was clear that some had not made proper contact with the socket as they were unmarked. I reckon maybe 10 - 15 of them were like this. I then inspected the socket and found a tiny piece of fluff stuck in it which I removed. I also noticed that the clamp seemed to be putting more pressure at the hinge end than the other end although I couldn't see how to change this without risking damage.
Anyway, put it all back together and it worked perfectly. This after having spent all day looking for a cure.
Can't really believe it was the fluff but could imagine reseating the CPU did it.

    Hope this helps someone

I should have added that apart from some continual chattering from the HDD, the PC worked perfectly!

    Hi Pete

I have put the OC settings back in and the system is still unstable. I have also noticed some inconcistencies with some of the settings, the DRAM Freq is at 1523 (should be 1603) and the UCLK Freq is at 3429 (should be 3408). I have followed all of your settings as closely as possible but I did notice the speed of the RAM was wrong also, its default speed should be 1600 but IIRC it was actually running at 1066 before I input the OC settings.

We need this system to be stable and reliable and it simply isn't at the moment. I would like someone to come out and have a look at it, I now firmly believe this is a hardware fault and feel the Mobo (and probably the RAM) need replacing.

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

Well I never knew when I made the thread that it would get this long!

I just wanted to conclude it by saying that my machine is now all fixed and working perfectly.

I can't thank Scan enough, their after sales service was absolutely superb - SERIOUSLY I can't emphasise that enough. It was awesome! Especially so as they were innocent victims and not the cause of the problems. I personally witnessed them fitting brand new components straight out of the box that turned out to be faulty. Completely the fault of the manufacturer yet Scan were always good at putting it right.

That justified my decision to pay for Scan to build my machine rather than sourcing the components from various stores and building it myself.

Had I done that latter I would have been well and truly shafted. I would have been trying to identify the source of the problem, sending back components only to have the stores telling me there was nothing wrong with them and of course buying replacement components that also didn't work. I'd have spent god knows how much time and money and still not had a fully working PC.

I will definitely be buying my next PC from Scan (if I haven't been made redundant!) as it was without a doubt worth the premium over the price you pay from the "flog it and forget it" merchants out there.

So thanks to PeteG, Reg and the younger chap who sorted it all out for me. A lot of people swear by building their own and hey even I could build a PC. But this is a cautionary tale that unless you know your stuff as well as PeteG does (and you probably don't) you are taking a gamble just to save a few quid....or mostly likely end up spending a hell of a lot more! I guess if you are a PC tech geek you might enjoy that nonsense but as a gamer that isn't what does it for me. Thanks to Scan I spent the Xmas period hammering away on Cataclysm instead of running around PC shops swapping out parts and sat on the floor scratching my head. I can't put a price on that.

    Cheers guys
