    The guys at SCAN

This is a bit of an off-topic question but I have been curious for a while!

On the SCAN 3XS page that lists all the pre-built systems, the systems are split into 3 catagories: entry to medium, high end and ultra high end. With each catagory there is a picture of a guy who is seemingly endorsing the systems in his catagory. For example 'phil-osospher.' Are these guys systems builders at SCAN? Or are they just random people who were shot to give the systems page a bit more of a personal feel?

In fact, if they do work for SCAN, do they specialise only in the systems under which they are heading?

Just curious cos I go on that page every day to check out latest prices etc and I just wonder what they have to do with the systems they are 'recommending.'

    Re: The guys at SCAN

    Hi there,

    Question of the day there!

The shots there are culled from an old ad campagin we ran a few years back, and we always grab random members of staff for those althrough those guys are not part of the build team in this instance.

Mr Born winner is Lee H from Sales
Mr Don't F**K is Dan our server Admin (pretty fitting then...)
Mr Phil-osospher no longer works here but that was Phil C who use to be our systems sales manager (as oppose to Phil P who's now our systems sales manager)

    Re: The guys at SCAN

    Thanks for the info!

Before, I just had this idea that one guy was in charge of the ultra-high end (phil), and one in charge of the high end and one in charge of the lower end ha

I wonder though (if you have time to reply, I know these arent exactly urgent questions), do some of your staff only do the high-end builds and some do the lower end ones? Cos I imagine the technical know-how to build a great white would be more than a that for a 5200 OC. So do you get the 'juniors' on the lower end and the 'maestros' on the higher end?

Again, just curious. Thanks for replying though!

We don't concentrate on a sub-section, we all try to get our heads around all the systems so that we can advise the customer to the best system to meet their requirements.

I'm Lee H btw... and that picture of us on there is very old indeed now lol

    Re: The guys at SCAN

    Hi Lee!

I heard that the pics were from an ad campaign run a few years ago.

Its a good idea tho - gives the page a bit more of a personal feel.

Dan will be happy with me though cos Im probably heading for a 3XS Intel X58 Core i7 when I order. ha

I like the way everyone at SCAN treats each PC build as a project - you are all involved, with the customer.

You know I think as part of the package you should take a polaroid of the build before it goes out the door (the system and the guys who built it), write your best wishes on the back of it and cellotape it to the top of the system. I think that would be really nice!

Good job anyway guys, I love these forums. I think every company should do it with their customers. Really builds confidence.

Lets just say our guys are masters at all ends of the spectrum
Funny you should mention it because the guy who built the original 5200 OC review system also was part of the team involved in the physical building of the said "Great White"

I'll put that to the team tomorrow see how they feel
May be more of a rogues gallery

You never know you may even see some pics of the team on here from now on.

    Re: The guys at SCAN

Thanks for listening to the suggestion.

When I was browsing around looking for a firm to build a computer for me, the one main thing that attracted me to SCAN was the very personalised shopping experience you provide (through forum, PM or email). That and the all the amazing reviews you have got from the media for your machines.

I love the fact you can see your build as it is being made (before and after shots) and a natural extension to this I thought would be to see the guys who built it and maybe if they signed some sort of photo to accompany the delivered build. Even if this is just a service offered for people who go on the forum or who have extensive contact with you before the build is finished. Cos (at least for me) buying a computer is such an in-depth experience and something that is a big investment for me, I would like to know who made it all possible

Look forward to the forum pics as well!

Looking around today, all I can say is I'd feel sorry for anyone who had their system photo'd and shipped on a monday!

    Re: The guys at SCAN

...God forbid left4dead 2 arrives anytime soon - no one is gonna turn up to work!

(Who is gonna build my 3XS system then...?)

Ok thanks for the heads up guys anyway - order my computer on a Monday so that the build starts later in the week once the left4dead effects wear off

Talking of hardcore weekend gaming, you know sometimes I play games so hard at the weekend I start to see screen tearing and slowdown in real life.... ha sad.

Yeah, I think that's quite common amongst heavy gamers. I spent so long playing NFSU when it first came out a few years back that everything had motion blur for a week.

    Re: The guys at SCAN

Try playing the PS3 for long period at a time...in real life everything starts to get a jagged edge ha

Hence one of the reasons for me deciding to upgrade to a PC. I cannot wait for the smooth lines of mirrors edge rather than the complete jag-fest that is on the PS3.

I will let you know when Im ready to order (is it ok to PM you my specs and other requests rather than go through general sales on the phone?). I was hoping to order in the next week but may be within the next month. The good ol' recession is a real pain in the 'overdraft' butt at the moment ha

Also tracking progress on your new Intel G2s...

Looking forward to my Polaroid of you guys building my machine anyway (assuming that was passed by the board)
