    New i7 system.

    Hi,

This will be first time buying a system from 3XS.

I’ve put together a spec that I hopefully will be possible to build, listed below.

Have managed to answer most of my questions from reading the forum but have a few left still.

Antec P193 Advanced Super Mid Tower Case Black Door w o PSU--£131.10
    Intel i7 860 2.80Ghz 8Mb Cache - Hyperthreading Enabled--£219.85
Prolima Megahalems Super 6 Heatpipe Tower Cooler - Award Winning Cooler-£39.66
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600)--£80.09
    1GB Power Color HD 5850, PCI-E 2.0, 4000MHz GDDR5, GPU 725MHz, 1440 Cores, DP/ 2x DVI/ HDMI + Dirt2*--£203.47
550w Corsair VX Series PSU (Single Graphics Card)--£62.68
    ST-3141SS (SATA & SAS) - Jou-Jye Black SNT-3141 4xHHD SATA/SAS Hot Swap Rack fits into 3x5.25" Bays--£71.98
    Sony AD-7240S-0B - 24x DVDRW--£16.55
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Extreme Audio PCI Sound Card 24Bit 7.1Ch OEM--£36.56
    MSI P55-GD65 Mobo--£128.28
    Chill Factor 2 (4g) - Thermalright Chill Factor 2--£5.74
    120mm-AKASA-APACHE-Super-Silence-fan-HDB-bearing-PWM-fan-w-4-pin-connector-and-Rubber-Pins £10.91
    120mm-AKASA-APACHE-Super-Silence-fan-HDB-bearing-PWM-fan-w-4-pin-connector-and-Rubber-Pins £10.91

    £1,017.78

What sort of cost will it be to get custom build like this put together?
I have no hard drive in the current spec.. Will that be a problem with the setup? (i just bought one... which some how has effected my pc switching on)

I like the look P193 case.. And that it is quite (so it says) but.. I don't see many people including this case in there specs is there a reason for this? And should I look at another case?

I’m not to sure if I should spend some more on the sound card or not... I currently just use Fatal1ty Creative headset.. Will there be much overall difference in the quality of sound, with a more expensive card or will pc performance be affected at all.

Also, I may get another 4GB ram and I have 4 WD hd ranging from 250GB to 750GB that will be going into.. Will the power supply at 550w be adequate?

If you think i should change any of the spec around please let me know, ive also considered at SSD hard drive but at £170 is a little out of my price range for a hard drive.. so.. Im going to wait for the price to drop a little.

Oh, and would icydock be better then the current make of hotswappable.. ? I went with that mainly as it seemed to do the same and was a little cheaper. but icydock seems to be most popular. from what ive see.

Finally, i think a couple of the parts are out of stock till 18th, but what sort of turn around time for the build like would there be ?

    Re: New i7 system.

£1,113.81 if you adapt this machine as much to your specs as possible.

Bear in mind though that doesn't include the £70 hot swap bay, although I'd say that you can more or less just add that onto the price given above for a fair estimate, giving you around £1200 in total. That includes a 500GB hard drive by the way.

    Re: New i7 system.

thanks, was one of the systems I ruffly based my spec off. though din't know how much extra would be added though for it being custom.

I don't plan on doing any overclocking.. so would there be a better/cheaper mother board I should loook out? then spend the saving on ram instead?

also.. looking at cutting the sound card also.. as i have heard not much differance between onboard and soundcard..

there isn't any extra cost involved with changeing the parts to other things other than of course the difference in the price of the components. So if you start with the price with one of their systems and add or take away based on what components you change it should be bang on.

That isn't strictly always the case if you want something funky that adds significantly more labour you will need to pay more but that won't apply in the vast majority of cases.

Best bet is just to ring scan and ask questions to their 3xs sales team, they are friendly and knowledgeable and will sort you out.

The Antec P1 series is probably the quietest range of cases you can find, but some people don't find them very good looking I guess. I have owned a P180 in the past.

I am awaiting a Scan 3XS Custom Series build myself, and went for the Coolermaster Cosmos, which is also designed to be quiet and a bit better looking (imo).

Yes, you only need a bigger PSU if you get dual graphics cards.

I would strongly consider spending the money, and dropping non-essential items like headphones, an SSD is very much worth it.

    Re: New i7 system.

    Thanks for replies.

Decided to stick with the case as im not overly worried about looks.

Sent the spec of to scan and just awaiting a quote now.

Its mostly the same spec, but have dropped the sound card and added

    64GB Samsung, SSD, PB22-J MLC-Flash, 2.5", 1 x SATA 3Gb/s, Read 220MB/s, Write 200MB/s

Tried to resist but I caved in! though I think will be pleased with the results.
