LCD Monitors - Does Pitch Size affect image size?

I've been looking at these 3 monitors:

• 22" Dell 2209WA http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-De...680x1050-10001
• 22" Acer V223WBbd http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-Ac...50-100001-HDCP
• 22" IIyama E2209HDS-1 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-II...2ms-200001-DCR

The first 2 are 1680x1050 pixels at a pitch of 0.282mm; the iiyama is 1920x1200 pixels at a pitch of 0.248mm

-- How does this different pitch size affect the images for a DAW configuration (using Cubase or Sonar or whatever)?
-- Is everything a little bit smaller (about 88%) on the iiyama (i.e the same number of pixels are used to draw any particular object)?
-- or are things the same size (i.e more pixels are used to draw any particular object on the iiyama)

My gut feeling is that the objects will be smaller on the iiyama.

Just seen your post. The higher the density of pixels for the same area, the 'smaller' icons and text will appear. A 200 pixel image will look larger on a monitor with a large pitch, and the converse is true for fine pitched monitors.

For example on my 24 inch screen things look normal, because one pixel equals roughly the same size as other monitors. Granted, I have more pixels at 1920 x 1200, and my monitor is therefore physically larger.

But my 17 inch laptop has the same resolution (wuxga - 1920x1200) so I often find myself squinting at icons and text. There are software solutions such as bigger text etc, but fundamentally each pixel is smaller, and that shows.

The smaller screen I suppose shows a finer grained image. Chances are your mobile phone screen or iphone is even finer grained. I would love to see a full size monitor that has the same pitch as my nokia 5800 which crams 640 x 360 into a regular package. It would be expensive but would be great for photography, or looking at audio waveforms, which tend to smush together unless you zoom in a lot on the wave. Hope this helps

That confirmed my thoughts.

Objects are generally drawn using a number of pixels (rather than vector graphics). So if the pixels are closer together then the objects will be smaller.

But, if the pixels are closer together then the image could be more precise / fine-detailed.

The iiyama has a very dense resolution. I'm not sure I would like that to be honest.

My 24" Dells are 1920x1200, 27" monitors are usually 1920x1200 as well. So yes, things are going to look very small on a monitor that size with that resolution. Photos and video is going to look great on that as the pixels are so small, everything is going to be very smooth. However text and icons are going to be tiny.

The ideal pixel density is about 90ppi or dpi I think (pixels per inch or dots per inch - they are the same thing)

The iiyama is going to be well over 100dpi.

Correct, although it also means you need to good eyes the look at the smaller pics

Pixel pitch of 0.282 mms
= 1 / 0.282 = 3.546 pixels per mm
= 35.46 pixels / cm
= 35.46 * 2.54 =90.07 pixels per inch
