Smile Looking to buy a new system

    Hi all,

I'm looking to (finally) replace my old PC and have been looking at some of the Scan builds as an option. My friend recommended this site to me as well so I thought I'd come along and join in the fun (and get some helpful advice along the way I hope!).

I quite like the look of the 3XS Performance GTX - Custom Series but I wondering if I'm going for too high a spec for what I'm actually going to be using it for (mainly gaming, but also all the usual internet, e-mail, occasional movie watching and photo editing).

One of my reasons for going for a higher spec than I maybe actually need right now is that I want this system to last me a good long while (i.e 5+ years) rather than buying something a lot cheaper that I'll just need to replace in a couple of years.

I'd be interested to know what people think, especially anyone who has gone for this (or a similar) system.

    Cheers!

Re: Looking to buy a new system

Hey mate, well i can recommand Scan and also recommend spending that little extra to last those extra years. Put it this way i spent £3400 4 years ago and i have only just needed to buy a new pc. I would recommend getting the best core parts to a system then you can always add the smaller things like sound cards or hard disks etc. at a later date when you need to. I'm sure the guys at scan will find the perfect machine for you, they always have for me, and the service is always great!
I went for the custom x58 system with and i7 @4ghz, GTX480, 6gb memory, a 64gb corsair nova ssd, new asus board all in silverstone fortress case.

That's good to know thanks. In the future I don't mind having to change/add some of the simple stuff but want to stay clear of having to do anything major - I want the core system to last me a good long while.

I'll have another look over the spec and see if I've got any more questions

Re: Looking to buy a new system

I don't think I'd recommend Scan with my current experience, I've had nothing but problems.

I ordered a 3XS P55 OC on the 29th of April, didn't hear much except "It could take up to 10 working days", made a support ticket asking what the deal was, which was answered on the 4th of May. I was told it would take until the 21st before my computer would be ready, in my opinion this was vastly unacceptable, and I immediately created another ticket to cancel my order.

I didn't get any reply to my ticket for a couple of days, and ended up phoning them myself to cancel the order. I was told that they were very busy but they could have my PC ready on the 14th instead. As this was only slightly longer than the time it would have took me to order the parts elsewhere and set them up, I agreed.

I received a phone call on the 14th telling me there was a problem, something to do with POSTing, no idea when I'll receive my computer, though it wouldn't surprise me if it did end up being the 21st after all. I with I had gone through with cancelling my order and just done it myself.

Communication has been mediocre at best throughout, there have been several occasions where I was told I'd receive a phone call that never came.

My advice would be to save yourself the money, and the hassle, and build it yourself.

spider, i went for the 3XS Performance GTX i7-930 with 6GB. i did think of i5-750 set up which was cheaper as well but wanted more power and future proofing. i personally think scan has the best components to select from.

    hope this helps.

Re: Looking to buy a new system

Just to update I have not received an email from Amusing Duck as such I can unfortunately not do anything further.

I hope you are now happy with your 3XS system and if you do ever encounter any problems do not hesitate to get in touch!
