Unhappy Problems on my new 3XS

Hello, received my new pc today and was imediatly impressed by the build quality. Fantastic though my initial experience was dampened by two problems ive noticed straight away.....

    1) I seem to be getting the same problem as others on the forums in that my system is only registring 4gb of ram and not 6gb.

    2) the front hard drive access bay on the front of my Obsidion 800D case is broken...

If somone could give me a call regarding these issues please.

    Thanks

Question Re: Problems on my new 3XS

whilst trawling through forums late into the evening ive noticed several posts about the fact the cpu not being seated correctly being a cause for this memory problem? Now im not saying you guys havent seated the cpu's correctly im just interested to see if there is any basis to this idea?

personally i cant see it being the cpu as system is working fine otherwise....
but just after your thoughts on this?

Philip has contacted and is arranging some replacement Ram sticks so hopefully that will fix the issue....fingers crossed!!

Re: Problems on my new 3XS

    Hello,

Because the memory controller these days is located on the CPU itself it is possible that a few bent pins that are not making contact with the bottom of the chip can be responsable for a the same symptoms as this fault, and if this was a one off I'd look into that as a possible cause.

Judging by the number of responses this week from customers who have received systems that have gone on to fail and they all have the same motherboard I'm leaning in the direction of a batch problem!

Normally motherboard firms who are troubleshooting will question user error in fitting the board firstly as they are not aware of the end users level of experiance so getting them to double check their work can save time on returning parts, which is why that solution to the problem will crop up in a lot of searchs. It's not all that easy to do these days with recessed pins through and the chances of it happening half a dozen times over the same week is unheard of.

The are forum entrys all over the net discussing fixes for this issue, but in all honestly the's no over all pattern other than the Intel memory controller on x58 / p55 doesn't detect memory in every configuration. It does in the vast majority but it tends to come down to a control voltage fix that allows the memory controller to detect all the memory at start up.

This does vary from batch to batch and the memory controllers on the memory sticks play an important part in all this and it's those that change on an almost weekly basis (I'm looking at rev's 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 2.7 right now all of the same type of memory) and cause the problem. Gigabyte has been good at tweaking the voltages to allow from compatability as each batch as emerged but Asus has had problems pinning down some of the updates. We've been working with and submitting failed systems to Corsair in the states to allow them to narrow down compatabilitys as we go and update Asus, Gigabyte and a number of other partners so improvements can be made.

I've spoken to Charliecat who has very kindly confirmed the revision he has working that Phil arranged to go out to him over the weekend. Hopefully we can source and supply enough of these packs to customers with the troubled systems in order to rectify this problem as quickly possible.
