Re: Forced to accept a refund worth less than a 2nd hand card

Ah, OK. That was my mistake then, sorry about that Chris.

Well, that kind of changes things. It's still a bit frustrating that I have forfeited what was left of my Scan warranty though by being forced to buy a 2nd hand card with no guarantee.

I guess this spiralled out of control through mis-information. Oh well, I shall cease my argument there then. Seems a little unfair, but I don't think i'm going to get anywhere. I have a 5850 on pre-order.

Cheers for listening to my rants anyway and tell Wesley I apologise for spamming him every half an hour

    Cheers guys

    Cheers, you too.

(By the way, if you see an Asus 5850 lying around, chuck it my way )

Re: Forced to accept a refund worth less than a 2nd hand card

I had a similar problem with a recent Scan order. I had bought two XFX XXX 512MB Radeon HD4850s in May for £144.98 +VAT, which I had intermittent problems with, until I RMA'd them in November. After following up the progress of the RMA a few times, I was informed that XFX had confirmed the cards were faulty, and refunded Scan for the cards, and was offered a refund of £110 +VAT. I had not been able to return the items for a significant period before this, because I'd also had to RMA my motherboard immediately after purchase, which was satisfactorily replaced by Scan during July.

I was a little peeved to find out that I was going to lose out to the tune of £40 just because Scan no longer stocked the cards that I had RMA'd. Whilst I know that Scan is not doing anything legally wrong here, I do find it a little aggreiving that even while my cards are under warranty, I can be provided with a refund of less than the market value of the cards. During the RMA process I also spent in the region of £20 on phone calls to Scan, and around £15 on return postage and packing, meaning that in all, I have lost out to the tune of about £75.

Since this encounter, I have bought a lot more computer equipment, including a replacement graphics card, all of which I would have bought from Scan (they were cheaper than most other retailers), but did not due to the issues I've had with them.

I'm not expecting to get anything out of this story, but I'm telling it in the hope that others will bear my experiences in mind when considering purchasing from Scan, even though I was impressed by Scan's good reviews in CustomPC magazine before buying from them.

    Fred
