Hi guys,
I bought what effectively amounts to a full computer from you on the 15th of September 2008. Just before the new year, the machine started failing to POST -- the screen stayed blank, and about five seconds after the power button was pressed, the fans spun up to full speed (thus reminding me just how much noise a Zalman CNPS9500AT HSF can make!)
The machine had been a little shaky for the weeks leading up to the failure -- random crashes, reset button not working (it'd reset the CD drive, but not the CPU/NB and peripherals -- the only fix was to pull the plug and start over).
Anyway, I've since swapped the CPU (my second suspect, after the PSU) for a brand-new Intel Q8300, which didn't do a thing.
Next I swapped the motherboard for a brand-new Asus Rampage Formula -- this and either the Q8300 or the original Q6600 works fine. Thus the problem lies with the old motherboard.
Now, the ASUS guarantee on these boards (according to ASUS's website) is 3 years, and that I should "contact [my] reseller" (see: http://support.asus.com/repair/repai...Language=en-us ) . That would be you, SCAN
So now onto the million dollar question(s):
- How do I go about raising an RMA for this board?
- There seems to be something of a conflict between the 3-year ASUS "return to supplier" guarantee and the Scan "3XS" policy on scan.co.uk. Which one takes precedence here?
- Given that the P5N72T Deluxe appears to be no longer available, what is the likely outcome of an RMA?
- What do I need to include with the board when I return it -- just the motherboard and the audio riser (HD Audio PCIe card), or the complete kit? The reason I ask is that the SATA cables are all labelled for this PC and tied into the case; removing them would be somewhat difficult...
Thanks,
Phil.
