    Gainward GTX460 problems

Hi I recently bought the 1GB GAINW GTX460 GS GoesLikeHell card from you, it worked fine for the first day other than Dawn of War 2 freezing twice, I checked the compatibility on this and it seems that DOW 2 has issues with the 460, so I figured I would wait for the next driver revision.

The second day of using it World of Warcraft froze and I had to reboot the PC, when the PC got to the welcome screen in Windows 7 x64 it froze, now whenever i boot it up it always freezes at the welcome screen in Windows, I have uninstalled the drivers and run Driver Sweeper on the PC getting rid of all the remains of the GFX card drivers.

I then installed 3 different sets of Drivers, from NVIDIA the v258.96, from Guru3D the v259.32 (beta) and from Windows updates the v259.47, all of these freeze at the welcome screen.

The card works fine as a standard VGA card, or in safe mode.

I have tried the GFX card in my GF's PC and it worked fine for a few hours then started to freeze, both PC's have worked fine for the last 10 months (this is when I built my new one and re-built the other) and both work fine with the ATI 4850 and the GF 7900gt, they dont crash/freeze/lock-up etc.

I have checked several forums (inc. NVIDIA) and lots of people are having the same issue, mainly with Win 7 x64.

Do you have any suggestions, I am thinking of waiting for the next NVIDIA driver release, but I have seen reports that a different 460GTX worked fine on the same PC.

    Thanks

    Re: Gainward GTX460 problems

Right, just followed full instructions for how to uninstall old GFX card drivers, it is what I did last time, I thought I'd try one more time, I also deleted the nv_disp.inf related files in FileRepository, I disabled the 4 extra HD audio devices the card has on the off chance it was interfering with the Realtek HD audio.

Re-booted, and it froze on the welcome screen for Windows, just like all the other times (i used the 259.32 drivers that so many have said work)

Looks like I will be returning the card for a replacement.

I dont want to return it, but I find I have little choice.

For the record, my system is as follows.

    Windows 7 x64
    Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 4.00GHz
    Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard
    Corsair 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 850W ATX2.2 Modular SLi Compliant Power Supply
Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
