    Returning an item

Can someone advise me please how to return my item.

I bought a Radeon 5770 from scan which i recieved today, i was really happy and excited when it arrived before the time scheduled. Then i find out that oh no my card for some strange reason wont give me a refresh rate above 60hz on my DELL P991 crt monitor. Now forgive me but no where on the website did it say "You can't use this card on a crt" meaning if i wish to keep it i have to pay out hundreds more for a new monitor which i can't afford.

I'm gutted i now have to go back to on board graphics AGAIN. As the card i have is worse then my onboard HD 4200.

Please either help me out and let me know why i can't achieve more then 60mhz or can you tell me how to return the card.

    Thanks M4DM4N.

    Re: Returning an item

To return an item, either ring returns during opening hours - or log a query here: http://web6.scan.co.uk/aspnet/Suppor...px?QueryType=R - but lets see if the refresh issue can be sorted for you.

    Re: Returning an item

i would really apreciate if some help in resolving the issue could be given. I've spent the past 4 hours trying to fix it and there seems to be no fix, but there is also nothing on radeon or xfx website warning that the 5770 can't be used on a CRT due to only getting 60mhz refresh its starting to give me a really bad headache. Theni have to tell the wife that the card doesn't work and needs returning which will be more then a headache as i already waisted money buying a 4890 from ebay.

    Re: Returning an item

Hi i have logged a query over at your site could you let me know how long it normaly takes to get sorted. I've really had enough of it now I've spent hours trying to sort the problem but there just seems to be no fix. Maybe my experience can help you out by adding it to your site that CRT monitors can't be used with the 5000 series.

Thanks for your time and help

Nope ive tried 9.8 i think it was thats on the cd with the card and 10.8. It seems to be a problem with the 5000 series of card and crt i just can't set anything above 60mhz on any resolution

    Re: Returning an item

Ok ray thanks for you help I've now tried 10.3 aswell to no avail. Seriously i don't think anything will work just google radeon 5770 refresh rate 60mhz their are loads of people with my problem. Though many seem to have just had enough and returned their cards.

Some help from scan would be nice ?. I've done a request to send the card back this morning but nothing has been replied to.

It would of been nice if this was true but seems i had no help from scan what so ever to help with my problem.
SCAN is arguably the UK's most customer focussed retailer of PC technology
I'm finding this very funny also as so far seems I'm just being ignored. I would probaly get faster replies from ebay.

    Re: Returning an item

    Hi,

I can confirm I have now issued an RMA number for the return of the unsuitable card.

Please note that providing the card is returned in the same condition as sold then a refund would be processed.

You would need to place a new order for the GTX460 you have expressed an interest in.

    Regards

    Re: Returning an item

They only thing i have done is opened the box so obviously the sticker that seals the box is broken. Everything is as it came. I only installed the card for couple of hours then removed it the same day i got it as it was giving me a really bad headache.

Thank you all for replying so fast but hope you understand i put in a query as asked then heard nothing not even on these forums.

Thanks for your help i ordered from scan from all the good feedback so i just hope at the end of this i can share some good feedback also.

Thank you mark i will post the item back today. I'll send it first class recorded ? I'm guessing there will be someone to sign for it. I will wait for the refund or weather the funds can be transfered to the new card and i pay the extra when the card is sent back as i can't afford to just order the card straight away. It's the asus gtx 460 768mb

    Re: Returning an item

You may be able to request free pick up as the card is not fit for purpose?
If you pay to send it back you must agree beforehand that postage will be reimbursed, I remember a few threads along those lines before

    Re: Returning an item

Oh i thought it was my job to just pay to send it back as the card didn't work for me. Though thinking about what you said the reason i sent it back is because the 5xxx series of ati radeon do not work with crt monitors and nothing above 60mhz refresh rate can be achieved. There was no warning of this on any site xfx or scan that i must use a lcd monitor to get full benifits of the card.

The fact it cost £8.65 to send back and now i need to reorder another card that cost another £14 is gutting but hey ho.

Any way could someone from scan explain what "Awaiting replacement / credit" means its been on this for 2 days, there is still "Credit authorisation" and completed to go. Could you let me know what happens now as i would like to re order the asus gtx 460. Or is it possible that i pay the extra ££ and the card can be sent out maybe a credit could be added to my account or something.

Oh I didnt know you sent it already!
Was it returned under DSR? In which case you would pay the postage back to Scan.

    Re: Returning an item

Surely a case of installing the correct drivers for the Monitor? If you're using a bog standard Windows provided driver (i.e. "Standard Plug and Play Monitor") then you probably won't get above 60Hz with any video card.

Maximum res (at a decent refreshh) for this screen is 1280x1024 @ 85Hz.

It's quite an old screen, not even sure you'd get drivers for anything past XP?
