Unhappy Possible Faulty Motherboard or Power Supply

    Hi

I hope someone can help me. I purchased the 3XS SLIK i7 X58 950 BlacOps bundle on the 14 December 2010 and every now and then my PC reboots itself at random times. Sometimes it will happen during POST or when im simply browsing the web. I have put up with this from around January when it first happened.

It has been working now for the last couple of months but recently the rebooting has returned....Anyway, I poped open the case and checked everything was seated properly and found that when I touched the 24 pin EATX connector the PC sprang into life. If you move it at all the PC will cut out. So, either the 24 pin connector on the power supply is faulty or the connector on the motherboard is faulty or somehow loose, im not sure but one of them is definately faulty.

Can i return the motherboard and power supply or is it too late since i purchased last year? . Its a real nightmare, especially when I was trying to get assignment done for Uni

    Thanks

Re: Possible Faulty Motherboard or Power Supply

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have made sure it is fully connected and it has clicked into place. I have checked all connections. At the moment I have it in place with a zip-tie so that it does not move, but thats just a workaround.

I checked the wiring from the PSU to see if any wiring has been nicked or split, but nothing.

Is it a modular PSU? what make and model is it?

It might be an heat issue too, how long does it stay on? does this time vary?

Re: Possible Faulty Motherboard or Power Supply

Yes it is a modular PSU. Its a Corsair HX850W and the PC is on for quite a few hours daily, and temperatures sit comfortably at around 35- 38C.

Isn't the point of the connector tighly clicking into place to prevent heat build up or anything else from loosening the power connector from the motherboard?

I meant on the cpu or gpu, evidently not with nice low temps.

Prob a loose connector pin inside plug then, strange one and really annoying.
