Just to update this thread.

Mark offered me a resolution in returning the cpu cooler with a re-stocking fee.

I (stupidly) overlooked one thing, when I specced the build I specifically chose ram with large heatsinks as I knew there would be no clearance issues.

An air cooler will cause issues, so I've decided to keep the cooler and put up with the noise.

Thanks to Scan for at least offering me a solution.

On another note, just called scan up to place an order, and even though I missed the cut off time my order will be despatched today. Infact from point of order it took about 5 minutes for my order to get despatched.

It's little things like that, that make all the difference

is it the fan on the cooler that's causing the problem or the water pump? Any scope for swapping the fan for a quiter one?
