    DSR on recent order?

Hi there I recently placed a large order which cost over £1000 for a new build, which was delivered on Friday 20th January.

However there are certain items on that order that I am not happy about.

I have the original packaging for all items, however the items have been used such as the case

I would like to return them under the dsr.

How do I go about initiating that process

And I would like to order different parts to replace the existing parts but a lot of downtime will not be convenient.

I assume I can order new parts Monday, pay for them, send the items I don't want and then get a refund?

    Re: DSR on recent order?

DSR doesn't protect you if you've used ie altered the condition of the items. It does entitle you to return something without needing a reason other than "changed my mind on actually seeing it". But if you've made the item unsellable as new to someone else then you're not covered by DSR unless the product is faulty (which would fall under statutory rights anyway).

If you've used the items why do you want to return them?

For certain items such as the cpu cooler H100, I had to use it to see how loud it was.

I thought dsr entitled you to use an item and provided the item is returned in as new condition with all original packaging it can be returned. Provided the goods have not been personalised and made to order, or software etc

So what you are saying is that I can only return un-open and un-used items?

That's not how dsr works from what I've read.

edit: after re-reading your post I'm assuming you are saying I can open the packaging but the goods can not be used if I want to return under the dsr.

Can someone from Scan clarify the policy and where I stand please

    Re: DSR on recent order?

    See edited post above.

If all you've done is run the H100 to hear it without applying thermal paste and sticking it on a CPU, and if this didn't require removal of warranty seals and similar packaging then you ought to be able to return by DSR provided it means that whoever gets it next is not receiving a marked, damaged or invalidated warranty product.

Personally I if receive an item that has been tampered with it goes straight back under DSR. I've had some things delievered by more than 1 site where they have clearly been mucked around with, and I've returned them immediately. IMO people should inform a retailer upfront if they intend to test products before accepting them.

But in the scenario you mention above the h100 has technically been used.

And going by what you said in your second paragraph, if you received the h100 cooler that I had only ran to hear it without applying thermal paste etc you'd class that as tampered with and send it back.

Either way I'll wait for an official response from Scan and where I stand with returns under dsr with my pc case for example.

    Re: DSR on recent order?

You can try on clothes to see if they fit and return them under DSR if they do not. You cannot return them under DSR if you've removed the tags and labels while doing so.

You can open a box to inspect a product and still return it under DSR. If you've damaged the packaging while doing so, tearing the box, ripping the manual etc then DSR doesn't cover this - you have altered the state of the goods, they are no longer as-new.

Once you've opened the outer packaging if you remove seals that void warranties, or cut open packaging such as cellophane wrap of say a bag of screws that wouldn't need doing to simply inspect the goods then you start to get into grey areas of what is and isn't acceptable.

Applying thermal paste to a CPU cooler is a complete no-go for return under DSR. If you've done this then you've USED the product.

I've returned items where the outer retail packaging is clearly damaged (therefore I have no confidence in the goods inside) and also where the item inside has been visibly marked and damaged. I've always returned them without altering the state of item. Eg never tried to fit items inside a case that needed returning, never powered something up to have a go with it, etc so I don't know how this applies to your example exactly.

    Re: DSR on recent order?

out of interest, what did you think of the H100 - is it noisy? I know some people didn't like the old H50's hum - is it the same problem with the H100?

    Re: DSR on recent order?

    You said this:
If all you've done is run the H100 to hear it without applying thermal paste and sticking it on a CPU, and if this didn't require removal of warranty seals and similar packaging then you ought to be able to return by DSR provided it means that whoever gets it next is not receiving a marked, damaged or invalidated warranty product.
That to me is classed as using the product.

You are saying if a product is used it can not be returned. An example of used you said is:
Applying thermal paste to a CPU cooler is a complete no-go for return under DSR. If you've done this then you've USED the product.
All I'm saying is I don't agree with the example you gave of simply running the h100 to hear it not being classed as used.

You then go on to say that you have never powered something up etc:
Eg never tried to fit items inside a case that needed returning, never powered something up to have a go with it
What I don't understand is why did you initially say that if all I've done is run the h100 to hear how loud it is, then I should be able to return it.

Then you change your mind and say if it's powered on it's classed as used.

You'd need to power it on to hear it, and for me personally whether cpu paste has been applied or whether it's been powered on to hear the pump, both cases are classed as used.

Anyway I'm not trying to get into a debate of what scenario constitutes using a product, I've openly admitted to using the product.

All I'm asking Scan is where I stand now the product has been used, whether DSR is an option or maybe a re-stocking fee.

I'm not familiar with the h50 hum, this is the first all in one solution I've tried from corsair.

Even on the lowest speed setting it is too loud, obviously loudness is subjective, but I don't like it.

On the highest setting it is unbearably loud, think launch xbox 360 loud.

Unfortunately I didn't realise how loud it would be. I should have just stuck with an air cooler until I go for a custom watercooling loop again.

    Re: DSR on recent order?

If you haven't CUT OPEN sealed security labels such as HDD come in, or sliced off WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED labels, or done something IRREVERSIBLE like applying CPU paste then opening the product, even powering it up (provided this is reversible - as it would be for a fan) should IMO be fine to return PROVIDED all the packaging, manuals, cables, connector pins etc are all unaffected, and the item can be resold AS NEW.

    Note resold AS NEW.

IIRC under DSR you are not required to pay a restocking fee. Guidance available from the OFT here: http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/bus...ral/oft698.pdf

Can I recommend the prolimatech Megahalems and an Akasa Apache 120mm fan. Uber quiet combo. If more cooling needed use 2 Apache fans in a push-pull.

    That makes perfect sense.

I'll see if given the circumstances scan can advise anything they can do.

My reference to re-stocking was if dsr didn't apply.

    Re: DSR on recent order?

    Hi J_C

We can confirm as has already been mentioned in the thread with regards to the H100 cooler.

If the pre applied thermal compound has been used this would be something we would decline to accept a return on. The same would apply to a retail CPU where the included HS+ F has been installed.

Providing the case is returned in the same condition as delivered to you I can confirm that we would accept this back.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

Thanks for getting back to me.

That is totally understandable with regards to the cpu cooler and simply returning it under dsr.

I assume with regards to the cpu cooler there is no option of even paying a re-stocking fee?
