Unsure where I stand in regards to returning an order.

    Hello Scan bods.

I recently made an order for this 8600GTS, which arrived on Monday. Now, the item description is referencing the silent heat pipe version of the card, but the imagery and tech specs page does refer to the fact that it's a fan based cooler.

I'm using this card in an HTPC, so a fan is no use to me. I obviously didn;t read the Scan pages thoroughly enough when I ordered, but the product overview on the Scan page is also incorrect.

Can a staffer please tell me where I stand on returns with regards to this item?

    Cheers

Well under the Distance Selling act you could send it back untouched but the picture of the item clearly shows a fan and the description mentions making smooth air flow into turbulent so no idea why you thought it might be passively cooled.

Yes, I realise the pic is of a fan. However, the product description is that of the non fan heat pipe variant of the Gigabyte card. I am admitting that I did not read the description thoroughly, and missed the image, however the overview is not correct. The fact it mentions that it turns smooth air to turbulent inside the heatsink is a good indication that it in fanless.

    How?
A heat sink is more likely to change turbulent flow into smooth[laminar], due to friction with the heat exchanging surfaces.
Need to learn a bit more about the passive cooling methods, before you make such an assumption.

You are most likely saved by distance selling regs... and Scan's great customer service

Maybe I do - but maybe you need to read the links I posted, seeing as that is what Gigabyte say about the passive-cooled card....

Anyway, have contacted Scan and will see what they say.

Very nice. Saw some stuff about these kind of things - right before I decided heat tranfer was a very nasty topic, a couple of years ago. Didn't think it had a commercial product outside of the blade servers.
