Well from what i have heard, the new GTS's are going to be £200-£220.
This makes them a very attractive buy and will send the GT's into the bargain bucket and be yestrerdays product before they are even 2 months old.
nVidia, although i think their products are great, have just taken advantage of ATI's lack of a top product and are throwing anything at the market as they know it will sell as most would rather go nVidia over ATI. The 8800GT is a classic example of this. Clever by nVidia to be honest but its an obvious ploy.

Unless you have a very old card the GT just isnt a value product. There is no doubt the GT is decent but the speed at which its going to be replaced, along with the old GTS's, i would be sick if in the last 2 weeks if i had paid £160+ for one.

That may or may not be the case only time will tell but if the 8800 GT is to end up in the 'bargain bucket' then thats even better for consumers as it'll still play all current games on high settings and at high resolutions on a well specced system.

Yes for someone upgradeing to dx10 or a new build the 8800GT is a great card, for someone already on an 8800gts it would not be a great buy, although it would be very annoying to someone who had bought a 8800gts very recently that a cheaper better card has come out.

The only review of the new 8800gts I've seen is this one, they found that it only slightly outperforms the 8800GT at higher res and comes out below the 8800gt at lower res (1280x1024)
From EVGA's website the 8800GTS SSC is $399.99 and the 8800GT is $269.99, so a differnce of $130 or £62.17
Is that £62.17 worth it for the small high res increase?
For someone getting a new card for gameing I'd say no stick with the GT, for someone wanting the best card around pay the extra for a GTX or Ultra for the top performance. this leaves the GTS in the hole between them only for thoes who can afford the £60 extra over the GT but not go as high as the GTX or Ultra

Also if 256mb and 1gb versions of the 8800GT come out then things will get more intresting and confusing.

I agree...If i had just bought my 8800GTS i would be sick (luckyily i have had it almost a year now and i dont pay for them )

I think you also need to take your review, of something that isnt even released with a pinch of salt.

Lets face it, nVidia would want the new 8800GTS 'dumbed-down' a little so the GT's don't suffer in sales as there must be stacks waiting in the production lines of them. They wouldnt want those stuck going nowhere whilst people hang on for a couple of weeks for the new GTS would they?

As for getting the GTX.....Isnt that a little contradictory.
All on these forums (and other forum boards) at the moment there is a thinking the GT is almost as quick as the GTX (debatable).
Then you state that the new GTS is only slightly better than the GT. Looking at that statement it seems odd.

The new GTS will be very good and i would think it would only be the Ultra that would be a better card. For £60 extra it is better value then.
I think the new GTS will have a much bigger performance gap (better) than the one seen with the old GTS (not being as quick) and the GT.

Im sure this statement will apply far more to buyers of GT's when the new GTS arrives.

Going from every review I've seen so far, splaces the GT between the GTS 320mb and the GTX (very few compair it to the gts 640mb)

Also I said someone wanting the BEST performance and by that I mean people who are perpaired to pay that extra for a small increase. I'm sure there are poeple out there who bought the GTX then bought the Ultra when it came out.
Also people who are prepaired to spen large summs on the best kit don't spend it only on the graphics card and on the higher resolutions there is a larger performance gane with the GTX


As to people being dissapointed when the new gts comes out I'm not so sure, at the moement the gt is cheaper and faster than the gts 320mb, but when the new gts comes out I have no doubt that it'll be faster and more expensive than the gt, so I don't see why someone should be annoied that they've brought out a faster more expensive card.
If it sells at the same sort of price that the current gts is going for then you're looking at approx £250 (remember nvidia have said they are ending the 320mb line and the new gts will be 640mb only)

and i agree with that. What i dont agree with is your statement that the new 8800GTS will only be marginally better than the GT.
I think the new GTS will be a BIG improvement on the GT else there would be no gap in the market for it. Probably replacing the GTX i wouldve thought (and gettting very close to Ultra's).

Thats only £60 at the most more than a GT as the top of the market GT's are £180+ aren't they.
I think a cheapo one can be had for around £160 but havent looked yet tbh.

I agree with you.
The GT is what it is because of performance AND pricing..
The new GTS will be faster and will be costlier.. As for how much faster, i dont really think there would be 'too much' gap.. because it will be using the same processor technology as the GT and only improving/enhancing the memory (clock or volume).
I think even if the new GTS comes out the GT would still be an attractive candidate.. this 8800GT is something like the Geforce Ti 4200 at its time..outliving its superiors..
But as said.. Lets Wait and See..

thing is that most e-tailers are gouging to a degree on these. i have seen the cost prices from various distributers, c2000 for example, and these should be selling at ~ £150-160 INC VAT!!!

i sold my GTX and bought an Asus 8800GT, making some cash back and having a good fast card, with onboard video decoder

Whatever the outcome of this (price vs new GTS/performance etc), there is no doubrt the GT is a decent card.
When my boss is ready to fork out again in January for the next one of mine, i cant wait to see whats available
