Yes nice to have it sorted out.
But he should think himself very lucky he didnt get charged carriage for at least some of the journeys as this wasnt Scans fault at all, surely common sense would show up a 4 pin lead and a 4 pin socket, and think "i wonder do i put that in there?" and check it out, especially when things arent working before raising RMA and couriering stuff about?!!!!!
    Anyway, older and wiser now!

Thanks for that, Rabbid... I think "Common sense" is actually the most subjective, hence the less "common" thing you can find on Earth.
I used to work for a company producing oven and fridges. Among the funny stories of the support team, there was one person calling because his fridge didn't work, though the the power cord, that translates into "ground/mud plug" in french, was plugged.
    Into a flower pot.

Was he an idiot, or just someone with other interests than knowing where electrical apparels get their power from ?

Glad you all got it sorted and everyones made up again. Though the initial problem did sound mightily like the BIOS kicking up a fuss about the CPU or something. I had a very similar problem upon return from a LAN party, it turned out the heatsink had come loose.

Great end to a story though

"idiot" is your word not mine

you chose to buy components to build a pc yourself
it is up to you to have the knowledge necessary to put it together and make it work

if you do not/cannot then you can be reasonably expected to make every effort to gain that knowledge or to ask/buy the knowledge from someone who has it, not to accuse the supplier of providing you faulty goods when in fact it is through your own misunderstanding or lack of research you end up with the wrong/incompatible parts.

Ok, when counter-arguments reach that level, it's time to say goodbye.

Goodbye, then, and thanks again Mark@Scan for your customer-focused treatment.
