    Still waiting on my RMA....

    Hey

I RMAed a motherboard on Thursday the 8th and I still haven't heard anything from Scan. I asked them about it early last week and I was told that they were 3 buisness days behind and it would be tested soon. I was also told that hopefully it would be tested last week. Ive looked on the returns tracker and it says that its been received for about 3 days now but not tested.

I couldn't get the motherboard to POST and all my componants are fine as I tried them all in my old motherboard and it worked fine. Unfortunatly Ive read that the board is a bit of a shambles when it comes to memory and it might just not like my RAM. To be honest I don't mind if I have to pay the (rather extortionate might I add) the £30+ charge for RMAing a working part, I just want to order a different board and be done with it. So... could anyone at Scan tell me when the board will ACTUALLY be tested and why its taken so long?

    Cheers

    Thanks alot Mick.
Just to be clear to anyone else reading this thread, I think (so far) Scan have been probably the best place Ive shopped at.

Re: Still waiting on my RMA....

Well I now have an email saying No fault found. This is what i expected as its a terrible board from what Ive heard (unfortunatly not before I bought one). I believe it to be the RAM that I have that it wouldn't accept. Hopefully I can pay the fee, exchange the board and get store credit or something and order a different board.

Re: Still waiting on my RMA....

is it the P5KC in ur sig thats playing up or a different one?
I have not personally had a problem (yet, touch wood!) with crucial ram either, tho i read some people have problems with supplying high enough voltage on them.

is ur ram listed as compatible to the board on the manufacturers site? if ur going to swap the board out, try to check a few boards that interest you and see if ur ram is listed as compatible first, else u may as well just get different ram (try to ask what ram Scan used to test)?

Re: Still waiting on my RMA....

Thanks rabbid. I was going to swap it for a P5K-E (if I did decide to swap it) My RAM isn't on the list (theres only 5 on there :\) What RAM do you use rabbid. I was looking at maybe Crucial Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804. My RAM was fairly cheap when I got it earlier this year. So I guess its time to upgrade anyway.

Re: Still waiting on my RMA....

I use (in no particular order): OCZ plats, GEILs, Corsair XMS2, Crucial (Ballistix), Corsair VS.
Btw I dont have that board, it was more of a general advice. I have run my Crucial DDR2-800 DC 1GB kit @1.8v (but 5-5-5-15 timings) with no problems in two low end boards (M2N-X and Foxconn VIA board) and entry AM2 cpu, I was wondering if it will run (as neither board can hit 2.1v) but it was fine. Can even tighten the timings not that it makes much difference on that level of mobo/cpu.

I dont know how long u have had ur RAM? Crucial used to have a good rep at helping people with compatibility isues. It may be worth asking them if its a recent purchase.

I am just wondering if u had issues trying to run it at tighter timings / less voltage than the board will boot with, or whether it is just basic compatibility on that series.

Its worth getting RAM that will work otherwise you might swap the board and still have the same issues? If you ask here or thru OLQ I am sure Scan can tell you what RAM they use to test ur board, then u can consider whether to get that.

Re: Still waiting on my RMA....

I think its just a general compatability problem. I couldn't get it to boot at all, not once, so its not like I could change the timings or voltage

It was Crucial value kinda RAM that was suggested by Custom PC for being really overclockable thats why I originally got it.

Anyway I decided to just scrap it and try the Crucial Ballistix. I needed to decide as I need the computer off my dining room table lol. Hopefully Scan will let me swap it for the P5K-E after paying the fee etc. Otherwise ill have to see what happens with the Ballistix and the P5KC.

Thanks for your help rabbid. Ill let you know what happens

Re: Still waiting on my RMA....

    Welcome
The Crucial I refer to above was the Ballistix. I had a 512mb piece of their basic DDR2-667 as a bootup test piece way back before RAM prices fell so low, that performed adequately and gave no troubles either.
Sure let us know how it ends up, hope it all works out!
