Wink Build a new system with Scan!

I would like to share this new build, Scan have always provided me with quality service so i have brought the following componants.

    Abit X38 Quad GT
    Corsair Twin2X 2x2049 6400C5
    Coolermaster RC3300 Case
    Intel Q6600 GO
    Hiper 630watt PSU
PowerColour 512mb Zero Therm HD3870 Pro
    MS Vista Premium 64bit
This will replace a 2 year old system which i will be giving to my Daughter, I have a Lian Li Case so will be transferring my old system into the Coolermaster case, this goes for the hard drive and DVD writer etc. the old PSU is also Hiper and has been brilliant which is why i have brought a new one. I have always used Asus/Nvidia motherboards but have been tempted by this Abit due to friends and some early reviews. The processor speaks for itself and regarding the graphics card this will be my first ATI mainly due to the crossfire option in the future. Having always used the Nvidia chipset and graphics i am looking forward to a change, you see i seem to have this upgrade bug! I have used this bug with my Hi-Fi and have really enjoyed using different componants to find the perfect sound for my ears, so will now try it in the PC world. This will be my third build since my old Evesham gave up the ghost some years ago, which was when i decided to read and learn the technical side of things to improve my skills and save money. Overclocking is something new to me me and hope this will get my technical side motivated, you see i worked with cars for many years and was always fine tuning the beasts looking for more power etc. If the responce to this tread is good i will keep you informed, the delivery is due on Monday before 10.30 and never having a problem with City Link or Scan, look forward with optimism.

Can you let me know what BIOS the board shipped with please as i have been trying to find out.

There have been VERY mixed reviews over that board but i am still curious as it has got much cheaper recently.

    Cheers

Interested to see how your intro to over clocking goes. That is an area I have not stepped into... yet. The system looks a good spec. I went from ATI to Nvidia due to their reviews. You have gone the other way. Interesting.
Keep us all up to speed.

With quite a high end machine, i am suprised that ATI was chosen asell tbh.
The ATI cards, although slower than the nVidia offerings, are exceptionally good value though.

Wink Re: Build a new system with Scan!

Regarding the bios i will also be interested to know but have been assured that most problems have been sorted! regarding Ati instead of Nvidia that is down to the new X38 chipsets being crossfire only so buying a Nvidia graphics card would give me no upgrade path, but also i would like a change and have heard great things about the new Ati cards with better drivers promised and crossfire operating in 2x16 mode this should be where the fun starts.
    P.S. Thanks for the interest!

Talking Re: Build a new system with Scan!

Well, Scan's delivery was spot on, i have never had a problem so it was expected. I have since built my system and installed Vista 64bit with out any problems. The Abit board as been rock solid with the latest bios 11 already installed. I have been playing with the Guru overclocking system and everything is stable running at 3 Ghz using the Freezer Pro cooler but i will need to do some more reading etc before i move on to faster things. I really like the 64bit Vista and so far my Son as played games like Call Of Duty 4, Bioshock, PES 2008 and Red Alert 2 without any problems. I have not had time to check my graphics yet but everything looks great and is very stable. I also think that 4gig of ram makes Vista run smoother once you disable Superfetch! but i will be doing some more testing over the weekend. All in all i am very pleased with my new set up and would highly recommend all of the componants i have brought and would like to thank Scan for making things run smoothly.

Did you have Bios 11 installed by Scan or did it actually ship with it?
