    Question Xclio psu, faulty?

Well i just built my system today and it seems the psu fan is broken, working but will make a clicky sorta sound when the speed is raised(by auto temp monitor stuff). It isnt sucking up sufficient air.
Anyone heard of this problem? its a 700w psu.

Also, cpu runs at around 50 C and mb at 53C idle, asus p5n-d and e8400 stock, bad temps?.

    Thanks

edit: The cpu clocks seem to change very randomly, 9x333 then the multiplyer will go down to 6x333, anyone know why an e8400 is doing this?

    Re: Xclio psu, faulty?

The CPU clocks are changing because you probably have Intel Speedstep and C1E enabled in your bios which varies the speed of your CPU according to load, and those temps look a bit high to me at stock, especially if the CPU is clocking down at idle due to Speedstep.

    Re: Xclio psu, faulty?

im lost with the slightly new bios layout but i will try and turn it off. The temps seem to be down to 47 c for cpu and 48 for mobo idle, still hot u think?

edit:my 8800GTS 512mb bfg oc, runs at around 60C idle, insane i dont even think the cooler has kicked in

edit2: xD, i turned off the c1e thingy (speed step was already off) and its sorted it, thanks. Now all i need to sort out is this psu and these random temps.

I know nothing about Xclio PSU's - but I doubt the fan shouldn't be making a clicky sound so maybe give scan a ring and see what they say. What 'auto temp monitor stuff' are you using?

Regarding your temps at idle - they still seem high to me for a 45nm Wolfdale chip, what are you using for the cooler? Is it seated correctly and the thermal paste correctly applied? What other case fans do you have installed?

How are you measuring the temps? - download CoreTemp (Google for link) and post a screeny.

As regards the BFG 8800GTS 512 OC - graphics cards ain't my thing - but from what I read these 8800GTS's do run pretty hot and 60C at idle is perfectly normal and acceptable.

-Core Temp is very unreliable. Try Everest
-BFG 8800GTS is a toaty card (though not as hot as 8800GT). They tend to idle around 50 dgrees and go to about 65-68 under load with stock cooling and no speed fan adjustments. Those temps for the card are fine though.

CoreTemp works fine and accurately on all my machines

Perhaps use Everest and Speedfan too - its not a problem using more than one.

    Re: Xclio psu, faulty?

well the temp thing is the temp monitor that is built into the psu as most newer ones do.
Using asus probe got those temps, seems idle at 35C now(up to 37max while surfing web) and mobo 38-40.

No idea about the problem atm, as i installed my old fans, 4 in total (1 in front bottom of the case, 1 side panel and 2 back of it) 3suck air in and then the side fan sucks it out. When im gaming i will most likely know as the temps will increase and make the psu fan kick in faster.

As my dad pointed out it seems to suck very little air in and push out(idle though)

Will check later this day and weekend. Thanks for the replies

    Re: Xclio psu, faulty?

The latest CPU temp of 35C at idle is much more like it - but I can't work out why you reported idle temps of first 50C then 47C earlier though....

Going back to the original problem - I would not be happy to hear the fan on my PSU making a clicking when the speed is raised.

    Re: Xclio psu, faulty?

indeed, the reason why its been going down is most likely because i reported this at idle as soon as i booted up and some were after a game. CPU seems to go up to 60c max when playing hellgate etc, very hot?. My mobo is around 50 degree c, hot?(this is after playing hellgate so cooer on start-idle) CPU now at 50 C idle , recommend i reset heatsink?

Side note- will increasing normal fan speed on gfx card void warranty? if it doesnt then would it be worth kicking it up a notch?(cant even hear it and the case fans are louder anyways so wouldnt notice sound)

How do you know it works fine? Have you used anything other than different software to verify?

CoreTemp is well known for erratic measuremtns.

    Re: Xclio psu, faulty?

Ok the clicky sound is back. Less noisy as before but that is probably becuas eof all the fans i got now and the average temp in case. Will most likely send back soon.

edit: i have a question for scan, do i have to pay for delivery? since its faulty i would hope not xD. How long do these RMA normally take for you lot? as i jsut built this thing and 2weeks is long if it is xD.

In which case all the other monitors are inacurate too, so theres no point in using any.....however this is not the place to discuss the merits of temp monitoring software - start another thread in the right place and we can discuss it further
