    XFX 8800GT Problem

I recently bought an XFX 8800GT from Scan (11/03/08 to be exact), which seems amazingly loud. After some research, I have found that this is a common problem with XFX 8800GTs, as they are set to run at 100% fan speed all of the time, and because some wires have been removed, you cannot change the speed at which it runs at. My question is, will I be able to request a refund from Scan on this, as I feel that this card is too loud to be usable, so that I can switch to an eVGA 8800Gt?

If you get an RMA number tomorrow you will be able to claim a refund under the DSR.

You will be liable for all P&P costs and only get a refund after the card is tested and found to be working.
You wont get a refund because of the sounds the card makes though. Gt's are loud......thats what single slot coolers are.

BTW.....WHy get the EVGA GT...its very overpriced and you can get a GTS (far better) for that sort of cash.

    Re: XFX 8800GT Problem

Thanks for your help Blitzen (forgot all about the DSR).
The eVGA one is £137 on today only, which isn't too bad, and seems to be the cheapest apart from the Palit. The cheapest 8800GTS on Scan is £185, so there is still a big difference between the too. I suspect you are looking at one of the massively overpriced superclocked variants.

Ahhh right....I was going to say.
The EVGA card was nearly £200 a couple of weeks back.
