Join up Hexus with Scan problem

I followed these instruction on the sticky :-
To find your HEXUS User ID you need to do the following:

Login to the HEXUS forums
Click on USER CP in the top navigation bar
Then select 'My Profile'
On the right hand side of the screen is a link that says 'Send a private message to [YOUR USERNAME] - click the link
After the page has loaded look in the address bar of your prowser and you will see the URL ends with a number. This is your HEXUS User ID
Next up is your HEXUS user name, this is the name you login with

After I clicked on the "My Profile" I cannot find "Send a private message"...... link anywhere, help!!!

You've brought something to my attention, however, and thank you.

New members don't have access to the Private Message facility straight away. This is because we were having trouble with spammers using it. Until recently, you also needed to be a member with a minimum postcount to qualify for the shipping offer. By the time a member qualified, he also had access to the messaging system, so would not have had the problem you did. But as that minimum post count has been removed, the sticky was out of date because the link you couldn't find only appears, if I remember correctly, when the member can access the messaging facility.

I've amended the sticky with an alternative method that should work, while we consider if there's a better way. If you want to do me a favour, you could try it and see if it would have solved your problem.

that method does work because its the way we have been telling people and using ourselves to tell people....

Yup ..... but I was after it being tested by someone in the relevant user group .... which regular members aren't. You have to remember that some templates contain code that detects usergroup and changes accordingly, so what you see and what a brand new member sees, and what you can do and what a new member can do, will be different.

For obvious reasons, I'm not going into details, but the usergroup that people being to varies a lot, and there are quite a few of them. We use customised usergroups to control a wide variety of things, some of which occur by manually amending either primary or secondary usergroup membership, and others are done automatically on achieving a given milestone, like age of membership or postcount, by using the promotions feature. Suffice it to say that last time I looked, there were about 40 usergroups.

In other words, I know the method works, for the reason that I checked it before adding it. But to test it as a new member means me setting up a test account, logging out, logging in as that test member then checking it out, which is what I was hoping to avoid.

OK, I waited for the second midnight and I was able to join up for free delivery. However you are right that there is no way that I can find out what my hexus number is without the help of Lee Horan. The reason is that I cannot PM at all, so the instruction was insufficient and wasted a lot of my time reading the instructions again and again and trying different internet browsers.

Testing user settings is a nightmare, I absolutely hate it. Done it on SMF, vBulletin and Invision and it just got worse and worse and worse each time. Then came the time for mods and OMG to think that I actually moaned at user settings... When I started on the mods it made user settings seem like a breeze.

Anyway I understand what you go through having done all that too many times for my liking.
