    Asus Rampage Extreme Availability

    Hello Scan!

I have been waiting to purchase the ASUS Rampage Extreme X48 DDR3 Motherboard for quite a while, and it seems that it will be arriving in the UK very soon. The motherboard is on pre-order at OCUK, and with an ETA of 25th July.

Does Scan have information on when this board will arrive? I would like very much to buy from Scan as OCUK tends to over-inflate on prices...

    Regards
    EF

    Re: Asus Rampage Extreme Availability

So anymore info on this board? been refreshing the X48 page for the past 3 days but still no sign of the Rampage Extreme...

Incidently OCUK had withdraw their ETA of it arriving today, and after contacting them they just said they will not be getting the board this week, and no further ETA will be posted, but it should arrive next week some time.

Is Scan definitely getting their allocation today? cus I'm really eager on ordering it with saturday delivery and get to play with it this weekend...

    Well eternal,

I have been looking at this board for sometime now myself. I currently have two Asus Maximus Extreme boards...one of which I am using while the other has been rma'd. When the rma'd one is returned I will sell it and upgrade to this board...or the way it's going so far.

I may have to wait on a x58 board specially as they are going to come out in October. And, then the Rampage Extreme will get left behind by the new Nehalem cpus'. Which can only work on x58 mbs'.

Since I am in USA, it would seem that your being a subject of the queen. At least get to have the tech. sooner in this case, as well if I could make a purchase would have to spend $500USD when the most I have paid for a Maximus Extreme was $384USD.

The exchange is hurting at best. And, unless I find a US resaler which to date no one is even entertaining the thought of pre-ordering here in the US this board.

Guess, they figure that x48's days' are numbered due to the release of Nehalem chips in Sept. & x58 the following month.

Asus's only reason for release of this board at this time is to lay claim to being to best of the last 775-LGA motherboards....

Being a competitive overclocker, these are just toys for me. I buy tech as they hit retail, and what new stuff is on the horizon doesn't change that fact. When nehalem is purchasable, then I'll buy them. But before they are officially out, the world doesn't stop, and the latest tech is still the latest tech. As far as I'm concerned nehalem may as well just be a myth. Competitive overclocking is just that, competitive, so by delaying on getting the latest and greatest, I may have just missed a world record chance.

How are we "having the tech"? Because we get an ETA? which was not honored in this case anyway. There are 2 ways of doing business - OCUK sets an ETA, and overprice the product to make sure the final purchasing price from the supplier will be covered, in the mean time getting people to pay for something they don't actually have in stock. Scan on the other hand only updates the website when they have both the retail price and ETA. However, at the end of the day if there are nothing to show for it, you are no worse off without an ETA.

Also, "being a subject of the queen" means we pay 1/3 more then the rest of the world on the same product.

To be honest being able to pre-order is just an excuse to take your money without giving you a product in return. If anything you are better off since you don't suffer the disappointment of a failed ETA, and have to eat it up cus you have already payed for it.

I think people are putting too much imagination on the nehalem platform.. it seems that it was portrayed to be the be-all-end-all, and will bring salvation to the world. What a boring place will the computer hardware industry be if all the manufactures decided that it was wasting time developing product for a dieing platform? I applaud Asus for continuing develop product for such a niche market (which many online sourced report Asus will not make a profit from such a development as the Rampage Extreme), and will feel every penny well spent.

So all I'm trying to convey is that we are no better off, far from it. Any company can put up an ETA and overprice the product to get you to pay, but that doesn't mean those that payed upfront will get the product any sooner then any other.
