    Newlink 200mbps home plug

    Hi guys,
Paul managed to get one of these to me on a next day delivery yesterday, despite me ordering quite late. Thanks for that.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Newli...omeplug-Single

I've got two already, which work brilliantly.

When I plugged this new one in, all three lights light up, power and ethernet stay lit, but Data goes out after about 15 seconds.

Clearly, it's not talking to the other units. I have tried the reset button: no joy. I tried pressing the security button in the ways described in the manual, even the bits that contradict each other (see the text for adding an item and compare it to the picture guide), tried pressing the security buttons for different lengths and in diferent combinations: Nothing. Can't get it to join the network. I know it's not on a separate wiring loom or anything as I rotated the plugs around, and the "existing" plugs work fine in the other sockets.

When I run the utility on the disk when the home plug is attached to the router, (ie. providing the link to the mains from the router which the other computers needs to go through to get internet access from the home plug network), the computer which is attached directly to the router can "see" the homeplug, and the utility confirms that the homeplug cannot see any data on the mains network, or the other homeplugs.

So, basically, the ethernet function seems to work, but data transfer seems to be borked.

Any ideas on how I can get it to talk to the others, or shall I just RMA it and get a replacement?

Well I am glad you have got the item quickly it is unfortunate your having problems!

Have you tried removing one of the working ones with the suspected faulty one to test on a know working config? If your still having issues I would be inclined to contact returns and see what they think.

    Hi,
Yeah, tried that. Rotated them around various combinations, plugs, computers, etc. No dice. It's odd, as the first two I got were just plug in and go, that was it. Didn't have to touch the security buttons on the first two. Hey ho. I've filled in the returns query on scan.co.uk. Thanks Paul.

Done. So... um... what happens now, then? If it's duff, do I get a replacement or a refund? If refund, I may as well order another one now.

    Re: Newlink 200mbps home plug

Cool. I'll give it two days, see if they get in touch, then make a choice. Thanks Paul.

    Woot! Tested, won't connect.

Home-wide networking, here we come (hopefully).

Edit: Um... I've had the email to say "replacement, item not working". Do I get one to say when it's despatched, or does it just arrive? I've checked the online progress page, and it appears silent. Unless I get a tick on "complete" when it's been posted.

    Cheers
