Help me sort out this hard drive fiasco :(

    Hi,

Sorry if this is a bit in depth but I just want to share a bit of the fustration of my side to hopefully explain the scale and honesty of my problems with a product I got from you guys.

I recently (only 2 months ago!) bought a Maxtor 1.5tb external drive from you guys (Link) and after seeing it go down like £30 in price pretty soon after, it wasn't enough as the whole hard drive collapsed.

The drive kept clicking and I had to rush to recover what I could of over 1tb of data. The contents of folders kept disappearing eventhough the harddrive reported the same amount of space being used. I had to do CHKDSK /f on it as well as the mandatory scandisk and faults were repaired but faults kept persisiting and clicking kept happening and more folders kept disappearing, so as I backed up everything I could I formatted the drive and tried to put data back on. The file transfer would always be interrupted and the HDD would become unresponsive, only when restarting it could I look at it and find data space has been taken but no folders are visible.

This happened to 3 different computers I tried it on.

I sent it back to you guys which cost nearly a tenner insured. Then the next day it got tested and you guys somehow found no faults so I was charged another £20. Then an additional £10 charge on it to deliver it to mine via next day, so I gave my card details to the lady and I still don't have the hard drive. No attempted delivery card or anything, and I ordered it to be sent back to me on the 27th .

I do know that a harddrive fault has nothing to do with you guys and although I'm not happy about this error coming out of nowhere and then somehow hiding when it needs to be seen which makes money randomly get taken out of my pocket, I just really need it back in my hands asap. If I had the option to, I would just rather get my money back from the harddrive and buy another one - so if this is possible let me know.

I work in music production and I'm getting work with some major major clients and I just really need this sorted asap please. I've had plenty of experience with you guys in the past so don't let me down! thanks!

The RMA number is 203534. PM me anytime if you need the invoice number, etc etc.

    Hi,

I have chased with our returns department who should be able to dispatch this tomorrow for delivery Thursday, please accept our apologies for the delay.

To clarify we are charging only the cost for returning the goods £10 and not £10 + an addtional £20 for testing.

    Regards

Re: Help me sort out this hard drive fiasco :(

    I'm just really furious now.

Got the hard drive back and I thought it was working with small random file transfers, so I transferred 130gb of WAV files back to it and it clicks and grinds halfway through @ 69gb transferred and the drive stops working. I can't even copy my files back, I have to use data recovery software.

What's worse is that it's a Friday so I will have to wait the whole weekend until I can at least process a replacement, as well as this problem just ongoing. Along with the depressing fact that this made me lose incredibly valuable irreplacable data.

I spoke to someone at the RMA staff to sort this out by emailing them specific things to test the drive by, but I just want a total refund now. Mark, could you please assist in this please? Thanks for the time.

Re: Help me sort out this hard drive fiasco :(

    Hi,

I believe you have spoken to Michael this morning who has agreed to collect the drive and has provided an RMA for further testing?

We have agreed that once returned if it is tested and confirmed to be faulty it will be refunded/replaced and any previous charges you have paid will be refunded in full.

However if again it is tested and no faults are found it will be subject to the same charges as the previous return.

When returning the drive please provide as much information about the problem as possible as this will assist our returns department in being able to identify a fault with the drive.

    Regards

Re: Help me sort out this hard drive fiasco :(

I'm actually worried to send it back now in fear of its inconvenience and the pure flamboyancy of the problem. I used a different USB cable and connected it directly to the laptop and it somehow seemed stable but after a couple of hundred Gb's it crashed again. Then I connected it to the Mac and it kept locking up so I filmed it, but that's not gonna prove much lol.

I'm just going to spend a bit of time contemplating if I should or not, if it's a minor fault like the USB lead or placing of the drive somehow causing all of this I would like to explore these options.

Is the drive working initially but after some hard use it has problems? If so its possibly a heat related problem? Try putting a desk fan blowing over it see if that helps? At least you might be able to recover some of your files in short bursts.
