    hard disk failure

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-S...ache-89-ms-NCQ

    Hello

I have a 1TB-Samsung-HD103UJ hard disk that crashed not so long ago, when I boot up it says
"Pri Slave Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup & Replace."

I don't have the packaging anymore & am just wondering what the procedure is to return it to Scan.
Hard drive was purchased less than a year ago, never returned anything before. Would it be possible if i purchased another samsung hd, but return the faulty one in the new packaging? No bad sectors were found when I did a thorough disk check either.

    Thanks in advance.

So it is strongly recommended to test the drive if it is truly defective by a few fundamental troubleshooting of ES Tool first, to avoid user's unnecessary effort and inconvenience of replacing a good drive.
First thing you might like to try is the Samsung Hard Disk testing tool
    it's called the ES tool.
    http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...s/ES_Tool.html

You vurn it to CD and boot from the CD and it runs an entire HDD test for you. It's WELL worth doing it incase their is another fault in your PC, unlikely as that is.

it'll save you time in the long run AND help the RMA too if it goes back.

I THINK this is your one

But you might like to go through the Support pages as I did to find it yourself with your model number.

I often use WD's version of the similar kind of thing and it'sstopped me sending back TWO drives that were actually fine and in both bases it was something else at fault.

    Re: hard disk failure

    Thanks for the reply Zak,

For some reason the estool won't start because of the asus p5q motherboard or bios settings & after searching & reading a few comments I have to install a floppy drive & use a floppy to initiate the utlity instead of a cd.
