You won't get performance loss from the starteck cage, just lik eyou don't get performance loss from any of the other server grade hot swap cages in the market. I have three 5-in-3 (3.5" to 5.24") cages and a 3-in-2. No performance loss from adding a second SATA connection to the equation. I guess there could be in theory, but not in practise.

    Thanks Funkstar,

Part of me believes this, but the other part has naggling concerns as I am using a SSD which is way faster than a normal SATA hard drive that the adapter may slightly restrict the speeds from the SSD. Which would defeat the entire purpose of paying £150 for a 64GB drive.

I might email Startech just to put my mind totally at ease before buying.

Honestly, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Next you'll be trying to see if Monster make SATA cables

Could I ask how are Scan doing on acquiring stock of the PCI Startech bay, as I wouldn't mind giving one a try now?

At around £30 it seems awfully expensive...

Plain boring alu bracket for around £7 to screw the drive into FTW!

    Kinda don't see a point in hot-swapping...

I'd use one in my ITX project where space is extremely tight so the only place I can stick 2.5" drive is PCI slot..

Are you planning to order some from the US?

    If so count me in...

Scans competitior is selling them at £18 each.

But I would rather get from Scan for that price if possible.

To be honest I neither need nor even want the hot swap ability, it is just the shape and size enclosure I want, and would much rather get those type on the USA site.

So I am seriously considering getting the US ones, am just worried about customs getting their nabby hands on it and giving me customs penalties for them. As they are already ridiculously expensive buying them from there.

It won't help me as my HDD is old 40GB ATA one.

Would be awesome if scan could stock 2.5" PCI bracket (cheapo one)

    @Anth

I've place my order in the US...

Gonna get two of these brackets so if you're interested PM me.

Couldn't really wait so long and this thread seems to be dead in the water...
