2.5" Hard Drive Bay for PCI - Do Scan Sell them?

    Hi,

Could I ask do Scan sell these ingenious items.

They allow you to mount 2.5" drives in spare PCI slots.

Its one of those things that are so clever you wonder why you never thought of them yourself.

If Scan do not sell them, if anyone has saw them for sale in the UK could they please PM me to the retail link as these are just what I need for my case but cannot for the life of me find them for sale in the UK.

    Thanks

I saw this the other day, it's the Scythe Slot Rafter and Scan don't sell them ... yet.

Other retailers do, but this isn't the place to post their URLs

Thanks, however I have saw the Scythe Rafter and it is not the same as I am after.

I say this as the Rafter is a big hefty thing for installing either two SSD's or 2 80mm fans. I am worried that this larger bay may then get in the way of the cooling for my graphics Card.

What I am after is just a small PCI slot bay for one drive that hopefully should leave enough clearence for the graphics card cooling.

Hmm, stupid question here, but where did you find the pic?

I was reading about the Scythe thing yesterday and trying to work out where I could use it - it's cheap too, shame it's so big though.

Its a company in the USA (So hope its ok to post a link).

    http://atechfabrication.com/products...nting_kits.htm

Just found it from a google search looking for ways to mount my SSD drive in either 3.5/5.25 or any other places in my case.

Everyone one of those three Scan should sell IMHO as they are very nice bays.

Re: 2.5" Hard Drive Bay for PCI - Do Scan Sell them?

I know Scan have a "no competitor" policy on these forums, but I seriously wouldn't class them as a competitor. I've come across them before when looking into passive cases. They are very good, but massively expensive. their quoted shipping to the UK was astronomical.

I think I could make one of these myself to be honest. But I would buy a few if they were cheap enough.

After a quick look about, I've also seen one that has the 2.5" drive in a hot swapable case, I think I actually like that one a bit more. Have a search for Startech.

Re: 2.5" Hard Drive Bay for PCI - Do Scan Sell them?

It is not as good as the one in my first post and from the looks of it will cost quite a bit more.

But is there any chance Scan could stock these from StarTech?

    http://www.startech.com/item-stock/S...sion-Slot.aspx

Scans competitor has them for £18.73 which is a very good price, but would rather buy from Scan if possible so any chance?

Preferably however I would rather have the simple single slot, single drive PCI mount from the picture in my first post. Surely they are not patented so if they are not available Scan could make their own (As I notice Scan do have your own brand of stuff on your website).

I would pay £10 for one of these in my first post.

These items will just be generic items without any other branding, so they may as well be called Scan items

I wouldn't expect Scan to actually have anything manufactured specifically for them.

I've just emailed the guy in purchasing to see if we can stock the scythe rafter, and also to see if we can source the other items listed on this thread.

As soon as I get a reply from him I'll let you know accordingly.

These are a great idea and would be fantastic if you can get them, especially if they're cheaper than 3.5 - 2.5 drive bay adaptors

    Best Regards,
Hi could I ask if you have managed to get a possible ETA on time of stocking either the Scythe Rafter or the Startech 2.5" PCI bays, as while my PC is in bits (Damn Corsair PSU blew). I am wanting to use this time to easily include these extra parts to my setup.

I have the inkling I will have the PSU back this time next week so will want to have everything else setup for then too.

    Don't I know it.

I ordered the Rafter from another store and paid a premium to do it.

The thing is massive, it is designed to house 4 2.5" drives and also two 80mm fans. And it is about the length of a ATI 4850 card.

I really just want a small bay like that one for one sole 2.5" SSD drive. I can't see me getting any more until they come way down in price.

Furthermore the Startech due to the way it is designed (using a SATA adapter) I have concerned about losing some speed of the drive due to this.

Any news Scan on the hunt for those in my first post pic? Before I bite the bullet and pay a huge sum to import one of those from the USA.
