Enermax Pro 82+ 525w psu warranty

Hi, I'm looking for info on the warranty for my 9 month old Enermax psu that's just gone puff, it went when I turned the power on at the wall, (before I turned the pc on), after I reset the trip the pc was dead.
I swapped the psu out for my 6 year old enermax 360w, with no pci-e or sata, the pc started with beeps and I got a message on the screen saying no graphics card power connected.
So my pc looks like it's ok, I've got molex to sata converters but no molex to pci-e, so I'm on my old steam powered pc that sounds like a traction engine.
So to the warranty, I want it done asap to get my pc back working, but looking on the scan site I have to ring coolergiant for warranty, does anyone know how long this is likely to take, this being my first scan claim I was hoping they would deal with it direct, I sent a return message but it was gone 5 on Friday so I don't expect a reply till Monday.
I would rather buy a new psu and get a refund on this as that would be quicker, but I don't know if that's possible.

    Thanks
    pete.

Re: Enermax Pro 82+ 525w psu warranty

I had the same issue, but with a Modu82+ version of the PSU, that failed twice under the same circumstance.

As for the RMA details the manufacturer warranty is handled by different company now, and on the Enermax UK RMA site it lists
All end customers generally should approach their original dealer for any RMA request. If the dealer does not exist anymore, you can also use the RMA form provided on the C&J Enermax RMA website

In my situation the Enermax RMA did take some time as the unit was repaired instead of replaced with new. I don't know if that entailed it being sent to Europe for repair that increased duration. But the first RMA took one month, combined with additional cost of posting it to the distributor. So wait and see what Scan offer.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, that's made me feel sick, I hope scan can do something, I don't intend to wait weeks for a repair.
I've now seen a few reports of these psu's going wrong, and you having it go twice, I'll have to look at it having an inherent fault, getting my money back and a different psu.
I think this will be the end for me and enermax.

Re: Enermax Pro 82+ 525w psu warranty

I've had an email from scan, and I'm sending it back to them, better than C&J or whoever.
I was told it's an average of 10 days turnaround.
Would it be possible if found faulty I could swap it for another, say a Corsair, I would pay the difference if dearer, I doubt it but I have lost faith in enermax, my 6 year old 360w enermax is still going strong but I don't think the new ones are as good, or maybe I just had a bad one?

Re: Enermax Pro 82+ 525w psu warranty

I've had an email saying: RMA: Awaiting Replacement / Credit
Does this mean I have an option or do I have to take a replcement?
As I've already said I would rather have another psu, my pc is actually working fine with my old
360w psu, but with a none powered graphics card.

    Thanks

I would contact Scan directly as you haven't received an official response on here. Just in case they have a fast turn around and ship you an identical replacement.

Well nothing today, what does "Awaiting Replacement / Credit" actually mean, they have them in stock if I'm getting a replacement, and I would think giving credit would be a few clicks of a keyboard,

I could ring tomorrow but to me that's just making more work, as somebody has to answer the phone and spend time talking to me, maybe they could email me, or someone reply here.

    filbert,

The "Awaiting Replacement/Credit" is just part of the automated system and refers to customers who are having one or the other. This isn't an "option" as such I'm sorry.

As you have had the item for more than 28 days, we can only issue a replacement I'm afraid.

Sorry no-one got to this thread sooner but hope this answers your questions.

YOu are just as likely to get a faulty Corsair as a faulty Enermax.
Luck of the draw im afraid.

It doesn't matter now, but your wrong about the inherent fault not taking 9 months.
An inherent fault can take years to show, some HP laptops are going wrong just after the 12months warranty, but people are making successfull claims, because they have an inherent fault.

    Hi Filbert,

Under the reverse burden of proof at 9 months, you would need to prove to Scan beyond any resonable doubt that the item was faulty from receipt..

Hope this clarifies the facts for you, your replacement should ship shortly.

    Wesley

Sorry, but you are not going to get anywhere with that.

You try and PROVE the fault was inherent after 9 months and you may aswell just pee in the wind.

Hmm, not sure what your saying, for me an end user cannot prove an inherent fault, I imaging you need an "Expert".
But my way of thinking is:
If the manufacturer gives a 3 year warranty and it goes wrong after 9 months of normal use, then surely it has to be an inherent fault, because otherwise it wouldn't go wrong.
This to me has to be the same for any item, if it's used correctly and fails early, it had to have a fault when bought.

    For you maybe.

Unfortunately for you in your case though, consumer law says otherwise.

Just because something dies after a few months doesnt mean it has an inherant fault. I could just be that it decided to give up the ghost. There doesn't have to be a reason for it. If your not protected by a surge protector, you could have had a power surge that took it out (dont know how likely that is in morden PSU's)
