A bit off topic but ...
The readers of this forum seem to be really knowledgeable & I ABSOLUTELY <3 SCAN !

I currently have in my system:

Intel qx9650 @ stock 3ghz
4gb ddr2 800mhz corsair ram
XFX GTX260 Black Edition

I have a 19" monitor running 1440x900 via VGA

For Christmas I am getting a 32" TV off my Parents (I'm in College just to clarify ) and want to run my game in 1080p, I have been told that I will not see an fps drop in games by going up to HD 1080p ....
Is this true or just too good to be true?

I play games like battlefield bad company 2 maxed out @50fps(ish)
and Call of Duty Black Ops (Which I won from Scan at their GTX580 launch ... btw Thanks again for that amazing day Scan)

Please help me out as i don't want to hinder my performance by going HD but as it's a present can't say I can't use it

If push comes to shove I might upgrade my graphics to a gtx460 or by a new motherboard and go SLI by acquiring another GTX260

The GTX 260 will give your around 30-35FPS on BC2 @ 1080p on full with little to no AA.

I have a GTX260 and run all games at 1920x1080, I have never noticed an FPS drop, even with settings quite high.

I will see how things go and if I do wish to upgrade i will most likely get a gtx460 to minimize costs seeing as a new motherboard, another gtx 260 and possibly ram if I go to ddr3 will be too much for a college student like me...

Just to clarify, going from your current resolution to full HD you are going to notice a drop in FPS theirs no two ways about it as your rendering a hell of a lot more pixels, will it run games at that resolution fine though yes..

Wait till you have the tele then if your not happy with the performance upgrade the GPU.

On a side note, when runnig Bad Company 2 I think I'm over do-ing it as sometimes (only on this game) random purple splodges appear for a second then disappear again, this happens a few times and I am slightly worried, seeing as its so random and quick i cannot take a screen shot, the "splodge" is random is size and shape but usually a circle shape if not far from it.

Any info is greatly appreciated

Thats normally a sign of a GPU overheating or on its way out. Try running HWmonitor as you playing a game, this will record the max GPU temp for ya http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html it should be good upto 105c as thats the max rated temp but should still be well below that, tops about 90c id say.

It could also be down the the drivers that your running for the card, you could try updating.

I have newest drivers and it wasn't overheating, I've looked around a bit and apparently the cards weren't that stable with pre-overclock as they should have been so I turned the clocks down and hopefully I shouldn't get any problems

ahh thank you, I have realised what th problem might have been, I had 16xAA and 16xAF, apparently if you have too much AA it can throttle memory so gonna leave stock clocks on and turn AA down to 6x or 8x

I would run x2AA if you have an Nvidia card, it actually performs better than without it.

Ah sorry, the benefit only comes in Battlefield, I'm not to sure about Blops.

Set clocks to default, fan to 45 degrees and AA to 4x @ 1440x900 everything high and HBAO on, 60fps(ish) and everything loooks and runs good
