My card (link: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=219245) arrived from Scan (thread:http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=68640) this morning and i've only just installed it. During the driver installation for the card i got the following dialog box(s) pop up.
when you press 'OK' then this..
There is no extra power cable for it. Any ideas..
My PSU is a Enermax 420W. In current PC 3 x HD, 2 optical drives, usb devices x 3. few case fans.. usual.
Is there a power/Molex connection on the back of the card ?
No there isn't.
The only extra wire on it was the fan on the gpu and thats connected on the card.
Weird; if it's the card illustrated, it should have that black block on the rear edge which should be a connector for a 4-pin molex plug. There won't be a wire, but there should be a socket.
My PC isn't booting anymore. Just freezes at boot up.

Connected extra power to it (taken from 2nd HD) but XP doesn't boot.
Post screen it gets stuck searching for IDE drive. Shall i take card out and reinstall..
Have you fixed the problem ?
If your systems failing to boot try clearing the CMOS, If its still not booting remove the card and see how far you get,
Nothing to do with your card, probably; if you've pulled the power from a hard disk to provide it to the graphics card, then the BIOS may well be stuck looking for a disk which isn't there. If you have another molex connector available from the PSU, then plug that into your currently unpowered hard disk.Originally Posted by pp05
What i did was i disconnected all HD's except Primary and it booted up fine. However when i power one of them back up it freezes again at post screen. I cleared CMOS and reset bios settings etc after taking it out and placing it back in.
I have only 1 molex connector and two HD in need of it. Had 3 in total, don't mind reverting to two disks but cant seem to get that at the moment.

You should be able to get a molex splitter to up the number of connections - Scan Linky.
Don't know why the machine fails to post unless the disk that causes the POST to freeze is on the same IDE channel as another device and they're jumpered incorrectly? i.e. both set to master or slave or set to cable select or something. I'd check that and maybe manually jumper one to master and one to slave. That's assuming IDE disks, of course.
I put in my old GFX card and both worked. Both are IDE drives sharing same channel and 1 set to cable select to best of my knowledge and the other in on slave(silver) on PATA cable. Managed to get 1 recognised just now.
I'm gonna give the molex splitter a go and see if i can get it to work.
I'd set the one currently set to CS to Master if the other is manually set to Slave, but it's almost starting to sound like a power issue.
The one currently on CS is the master IDE (well was) and thats the one i cant seem to wake up. But managed to get the one slave connector on. So presently got my primary and the one on slave.. on.
I have been tempted to replace both secondary/backup disks with one larger capacity HD as they are 60gb each, i've seen SATA 250gb drives hitting 60 pounds mark.
I hope it's not power issue. What are indicators..
Well, failure to POST when all the devices are plugged in could be one, but I'd seriously start by actually jumpering the one on CS to be the Master, not just setting the other to slave leaving it on CS.
Power splitter seems to have done the trick.thx all.
