    Delivery Options question

    Afternoon guys

Got 2 (hopefully) questions for you:

Why do you use Citylink for deliveries? And do you have any plans to change courier or offer alternatives?

I ask because I will be ordering some new PC parts soon, and was looking at scan to buy them from. These would be high-value parts (new CPU/GFX) so obviously I want to be sure they will a) arrive and b) be in one piece when they do.

Your site says that you use Citylink for all delieveries, and this makes me very uneasy about ordering. Citylink have a terrible track record both with me personally, and with many other people I know. Personally I have experienced parcels left on my doorstep, cards pushed through the door when I was in (ie no attempt to knock on teh door or ring the bell), delieverys simply not turning up, delieveries going to the wrong house or street, rude and surely drivers, very long waits at the depot if I go to collect something...the list goes on.

Now yes this kind of thing obviously can happen with any courier, and to a certain extent these problems depend on which driver and depot you get. I have had some parcels delieverd fine by citylink, however the majority have been..to put it politely..'messed up'.

So understandably I don't really want to have to use them again, and given a choice I would choose a more reputable courier such as Amtrak, DHL, Interlink etc - none of which I have ever had a problem with (and all of which I have used frequently)

I expect that you use citylink both out of their pricing (which is competetive as it is, and I expect after 10 years of using them you get very good rates) and out of loyalty to them, and this I can understand

Would you consider the possibility of offering an alternative though, even at a higher cost passed on to the customer. I'm sure that many of your other customers would appreciate this.

Note that for the above I am assuming that I pay for the shipping (ie dont take advantage of the hexus free shipping offer), as obviously its not really fair to complain about something thats free

When I am at my Manchester Address I could, of course, come and collect it as you are not that far away, and this is what I might end up doing But if I am at my turntime address (stafford) it's a bit far to come..

City link has been discussed in other threads, and i think changing couriers is out of the question, but anyway wait for scan to reply, not really my place to say i guess.

We use CityLink for many reasons and no we will not be changing or offering an alternative, ultimately this boils down to business reasons. I am sure however, you can arrange for your own courier to collect the goods with our sales team, i'm not 100% so will wait for them to confirm this, but i am confident it is an option.

Ok thats cool, I understand there can be many business reasons..and that just because a few of your customers know how poor citylink are doesnt mean that you should/will change. Using my own courier kind of negates the price advantage of buying from scan really, so I doubt I will do that.

Thanks for the fast reply anyway

These things usually boil down to just the local depot & afflicts all carriers.

Think all depends on route and how close depot is - i'm quite a distance from nearest branch (Bournemouth) so expect to have deliveries a little later.

CityLink can be very hit or miss with me - if i get them to deliver at home there normally pretty terrible, as mentioned above the drivers normally arnt the the most polite people around and ive had a few attempted delivery cards pushed through without even ringing the bell. However, if i get them to deliver to work its a whole different experience, there usually with me before 10am and some of the nicest guys you can meet.

Most of my stuff comes from Citylink (Scan, ebuyer, X-Case etc). Can't fault them here, well maybe apart from the time the driver realised he was being followed, left his van running whilst ringing a doorbell and wondered why it was nicked with a large pile of PC parts for me still in it!

It might be nice to see Royal Mail as a carrier for small items, as a minimum of £7 delivery is quite expensive when your only buying something small, however, this doesnt really affect me, because i dont really buy small things from scan, my last 3 orders have come to £1,516.50, £103.28 and £258.59, but if you see something you want for say £10, £7 delivery seems expensive.
