    Consumer Rights - RMA process

    Hi

I've always wondered what my actual rights are as a consumer when it comes to the RMA process. Now I know that under the distance selling act should you return a product within 7 days you're fully entitled to a replacement/refund no questions asked - now would the refund include shipping charges?
Secondly, after this period say I wanted to return something as it was faulty, I understand that it's the retailers responsibility to provide you with a replacement within the first year - now what would be an 'acceptable' timeframe for this replacement to be given? IMO anything longer than 2 weeks in unacceptable but several retailers seem to think otherwise (namely OcUK).

Any advice on this matter greatly appreciated, I dont have anything to return, but it's good to know where I/others stand on this.

    cheers

I wouldn't be surprised if the replacement time was 28 days or 21 days.

The regulations that come with the distance selling act seem a bit out-dated and waiting a month is ridiculous in this day and age.

But if the company has to test the object and whatever I would expect a bit of delay but this is OCuk and I wouldn't be surprised if you're waiting for 3-4 weeks :/

With those cowboys, in their T & S, if the product is over 28 days old then they can take up to 3 months to provide refund/replacement. Its also got to go back to the manufacturer as OCUK wont sanction any replacements either. They will then factor in depreciation. Basically....you will lose out!

If you are spending, then do yourslef a favour and buy from a decent company instead of them.

Scan/MicroDirect/KustomPC/YoYotech. These have the best AFTER SALES service around!

They might cost a tiny bit more but believe me, going cheap with the likes of OCUK is a false economy.

You could always go direct to the manufacturer for faulty good within the warranty period but after say a month or two old. I had my Gigabyte mobo go tits on me after a failed flash and spoke to Gigabyte direct and they said I could either send it back to the seller for them to send it onto gigabyte or just pay a tenner and send it to them direct which was quicker. Did the latter and got it back within a week.
