Post Haggling with Dell on already submitted order

I ordered a C521 desktop from Dell early last week, they quoted me a delivery date of 30/08 - ridiculously long. Phoned them up to complain at the end of the week and they are calling me back tomorrow to let me know how the order's proceeding. If they really have a big backlog, I guess it won't have got very far

What am I most likely to be able to get out of them as compensation? Order only came to £240 inc. (I added an MX Revolution to replace my dying MX700). More RAM, speakers? Cash money?

Any advice on how I should play it?

Well yeah, I want it faster, but clearly all this stress they've put me through necessitates something to soothe my tortured soul?

Dell and a slow delivery, I dont believe it.

Everything I have ordered and had sent to other addresses, has got there within 4 days, including a £2500k XPS system.

    Maybe they really are busy?

Or maybe theres a backlog for one of the parts. Phone Dell and see if that's the case. If it is then ask them for an upgrade to something better (free of charge) so it can be delivered at a more reasonable time.

Dell are swamped at the moment. They have just released completely new laptop and desktop ranges. Some of them are suffering massive lead times.

They are struggling to get LCD panels in..so monitors have huge lead times.

It's a hard time for dell at the moment but hopefully they'll be sorting it out soon.

Are you sure you don't work for Dell ?

Always getting the best deals and you seem to come up with all the info.

heh, that wouldn't surprise me if he did.
I think its got something to do with the glass fronts on some of the monitors perhaps?

Well, they phoned me back today and said my order has gone into production - so I couldn't really kick up much of a fuss (yet). Still saying delivery by August 20th, every time I pressed them on it they kept saying "orders are usually delivered much before that date".

I'll have to keep an eye on it.

purchased a new Vostro laptop on the 27th of this month was quoted the 10th of August as delivery date but it came yesterday so I'd say theres no back log there.

    Is it coming from Ireland?

Ordered a PC from Dell a month or so ago - was delivered 3 days before they said it would be
Time from placing the order (late one night!) was 6 days. Everything I've *ever* ordered from Dell (apart from 75k's worth of servers that took bloody weeks to sort out!) has come through very sharpish. Including my latest 24" monitor ..... God I love it!!!!

It's still showing as in pre-production.

I ordered it on the 24/07/2007, that's 9 full working days already. Grrr!
