Read more.Far be it for me to tell you how to spend your money, dear reader, but the next time you see a senior citizen brandishing a poppy-laden box, just give a little.... because they gave a whole lot more.

It isn't just the soldiers of the past we should be reminded to remember - the ones we currently have deployed get fairly poor treatment by the public of this country.
I agree with the message, but I'm still a bit uncomfortable having such things on Hexus.
I think we need to remember those who have lost their lives, or had their lives impacted upon with the loss, or injury of loved ones during wartime. This includes previous conflicts as well as ones which we are reminded of daily in the news.
DeSean,
It's just my own personal viewpoint that I've stuck on the first page. It's not designed to be preachy in the slightest, and it's the first time I've made such a thematic posting in over 5 years.
If it makes one more person think a second or two longer about the kind of hardships that were endured - and still are being endured - in the name of liberty, then it's done its job.
bravo to Hexus for reminding people about this very worthy cause
yep tesco's now has an old timer stood to attention (no doubt) all day long, i need a new one, my poppy's tatty after a few days at work
lol i feel like giving them a cup of tea with a nip of the good stuff in there and a nice slice of cake and taking over for a bit
I always wear my poppy with pride.
Don't get me wrong Tarinder, I think you are right to do it in this case, and I know it is just your opinion.
However if it was a more controversial topic, it might be different, even if it was just your personal opinion.
[Now that I have explained that, I'm not sure if it even makes sense to me lol]
Admittedly I wholeheartedly endorse and agree with your decision - as someone who has served in the military for 31 years I am hardly likely to disagree! However, I think I understand where DeSean is coming from; its not the message itself (worthy as it is), more a slight concern about what the next message might be .....
Then again, it is Hexus 'Community' and as such we can't totally divorce ourselves from matters outside of the Tech/Gaming/Computing sphere. And in my opinion, neither should we.
I've had mine for almost 6 years! Every year I get it out and wear it with pride!
That was a joke btw, admitedly not a very funny one, although I did meet someone who actually did that. I had to explain the whole point to her.
With love and many thanks,
Melons
I wear mine with pride
Its about honouring the sacrifices of those that stood up and fought for a society they believed in.
I think I need you to help me express myself more often!
I want one of those extra special poppies, but I keep losing mine. I feel guilty about getting another without paying, so I give a bit more each time. (I'm a student but if I spent less on my computer this would not be such a problem.)
Lastly, for a tech angle on all this, here is a quote from the Royal British Legion site:
The Royal British Legion - HomeResidents of the virtual world Second Life will be able to share the Remembrance experience in at a virtual Cenotaph in a Garden of Remembrance on Poppy Island.
