I'd buy the X27 if it uses the MOBILE Atom chipset (Poulsbo)and not the crappy 945GC that Asus use in the Ebox and if it can take a 3.5 HDD... would make a good NAS box or HTPC if it is kitted out with the hardware acceleration that the Poulsbo chipset has.

    Bad news the specs are

    Shuttle X27
Intel Atom 230 1.6GHz onboard CPU
    Intel 945GC / ICH7 chipset
    1x DDR2 533 / 667, up to 2GB
1x PCI slot for further expansion
    Gigabit LAN, 4x USB 2.0, 5.1 audio
    Mini ITX platform
    60W external adapter
    Slim chassis design

So thats a good chip and a cheap crap motherboard that won't due bluray.

A low-cost shuttle like that using the new ATI external graphics for expansion could be quite nice

Not sure that they did.. the Asus Ebox uses an Atom mobo and has a Wireless-N card sitting on a mini PCi-E slot... and there is a miniITX Atom board with a 16x PCI-E slot.. so it seems its just Intel (and reference designs) that dont have PCI-E
