Current ones aren't clocking as well and transition to 45nm across the board means no room for the so old 65nm processors.

I can understand why it was a good cpu, cheap quadcore but overclocking potential(great). But now the newer batches seem bad and its more expensive than a 2.5ghz quad. I fail to see why people will buy it as u can get a good amd phenom 2 for similar price and they are much better.

Re: Analysis - Intel details phase-out of Q6600

The Q6600 has been such a successful CPU because it is cheap (or at least it was) and it clocked well with its 9x multi high FSB was not required.

Also you only need to look at a couple of etailers and you see that the Q6600 is still cheaper than the Q8300 (although the Q8200 is finally cheaper than it this is more due to the rising cost of the Q6600 rather than the falling cost of the Q8200) the real issue has to be with the Phenom 2 920 being priced less than the Q8300 and only very slightly more than a Q6600 is it where the clever money goes?

I wasn't too suprised to hear this news.

I'm just glad I got a pretty decent processor to enable a nice 450 Mhz FSB instead of the puny 266 Mhz FSB it has when operating at stock speeds.

Re: Analysis - Intel details phase-out of Q6600

Just a quick note. I read the AMD Phenom II don't respond well to changes in FSB speed. Thus a multiplier locked 920 may not be the best option. The 940 Black Edition (with unlocked multi for about £20 more) seems to be the more sensible option, according to what i've read anyway....

Got my Q6600 Retail for £113. What a bargain Runs nicely at 3.6Ghz, that should see me through for a good 2/3 years I reckon!

Re: Analysis - Intel details phase-out of Q6600

I guess you would have been better with a lower consumption 45nm quad core (especially if you are planning to keep the 6600 overclocked for 2 years you would save a lot more at the end.
    Probably for £70-80 a Q6600 would be a bargain.
