I like that. Sure, it hogs up a GPU slot, but a creative system builder could include a slim optical drive and completely chop off the front 6/7 inches of the case, where the drive bays usually reside.

Reading at around 700MB/s and writing at 500MB/s, the goliath isn't much faster than a well-tuned, multi-drive (mechanical) setup
Where do you get your drives from? I'd love some

6 Samsung Spinpoint F1's in RAID0 (with a decent RAID controller) will beat that.
SAS drives with a decent RAID controller will also easily beat that.
Of course the kind of computers that post that kind of disk performance also tend to take a good 2 minutes to POST and another 2 minutes plus to be usable so it's all relative.

    6 in RAID0!

I had an F1 and it started posting dodgy SMART messages soon after purchase and a friend went through 3 in a row that all failed. I love Samsung but they need to do something about their quality control in their HDD department. I certainly wouldn't risk 6 in non-redundant (dependant?) array....

And the seak time will be?

Fact is most RAID controllers themself start to bottleneck above 500MB/s. Even the expensive adaptec ones.

I found when raiding 3 X25-Es this started to happen. Rather at least i *think* it was the RAID controller to blame.

6 3.5" drives would also create a more waste heat, noise and a lot more space. Fast SAS drives are not exactly quiet either... I certainly wouldn't put any in a home PC!

Yep, I've had a 750gb Samsung (Barracuda, I think) die on me.

I certainly wouldn't put Samsung (or maxtor, while I'm at it) in my PCs again, full stop, let ALONE in Raid 0.
