I'm still using wired and am a noob to wireless/networking, how secure are these things?
AES is hard as nails. To the point that nobody has any theoretical attack for breaking it. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance...ption_Standard
Just select WPA2-AES on your router and you're fine. As mentioned TKIP has been known vulnerable for a while.
er yeah ok....
The worlds MOST secure equipment (read millions of £s) CAN and HAS been hacked on several occasions due to the retards that use "Wireless technology". Ask Walmart.
Wireless is NOT as secure (never will be) as a secured wired connection. period.
Just like internet is never secure. For example the best way to have a secure internet connection is not to have one at all.
You have a point - with wireless you're broadcasting your data to whoever is in range, with wired someone has to physically plug something in. However, AES encryption is extremely strong and plenty strong enough for home/business users. Even if WPA on the router was somehow bypassed, most data which is considered sensitive is protected at the application layer by TLS which is also incredibly strong. It would be far easier to try and steal someone's credit card!
BTW, what are you referring to by 'MOST secure equipment' because it obviously isn't - WPA2-AES has NOT been broken, to public knowledge anyway. What you say about wireless always being less secure is true to a point but certainly debatable - using properly implemented security measures, it's currently equally or more secure than its non-encrypted wired equivalent - wires aren't bulletproof you know! I mean how hard is it for someone to tap an Ethernet cable?

To be expected really. I'm happy with my wireless network security.
My wireless router is 100% secure, im 100% sure that no one will ever hack it from wireless point,
Thats because i turned the wireless off and only using the wires that are already around the house. Im yet still to discover the point of wireless. Yes its not messy etc, but is it really? i mean if i use wireless on my desctop (i got one of those PCI thingys) and im next room to the router, its already un playable on stuff like BF2, TF2 etc
Wasnt this done some time ago by a Uni running a bruteforce attack being powered by a nVidia GPU & CUDA coded script/attack ?

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Just changed my router to WPA2-AES, thanks for the tip guys. Although its still very unlikely someone will bother to hack my wifi network...
You seriously can't see the point of wireless? I'll give you some hints... how about laptops? Netbooks? iPhones? Yeah, wireless isn't the best solution for desktops, but that doesn't make it pointless. What's pointless is having a portable device which has to be plugged in all the time.
I have homeplugs in my house for my second pc, PS3, and asusO!play media player which is secure (after all its basically wired lan). My main pc is connected directly to the router.
I also have wireless internet activated for my sisters pc and my own laptop, and its secured with WPA2. After seeing my mate hack WEP within 5 minutes I'd thought I'd up my security from WEP to WPA2.
