And yet the real figure is its all early access(demo) that never get sold unless you like wasting money on half built game and most never get updates and get pulled.

Steam has become a big spy joke these days and never listen to people they just want money.

How many of these 'New Releases' are actually 'Early Access' games though? could explain the much higher numbers, since early access was only launched in March 2013 and would have taken a couple of months to gather momentum with devs.

Kingdom Rush for me - then again, it's only a tower defence game. Not exactly an AAA title. Your six-month timeline just misses out on BF4, which I'd argue was actually pretty decent on PC. Presumably TitanFall doesn't count either (not played it myself, and the hypegasm around me has me suspecting that it's 'meh'). I'd also give a 5* to SRIV, but that's just me.

What I'd be interested in is if any fellow Hexiens have any tips for Greenlight's or Early Accesses that look worth a punt. There was that turn-based FPS that got covered here last week, and I'm toying with that prison simulator.

Its a shame most of the games are terrible burying decent games from view, I hope valve stop this idea of making everything open to the public to control

In addition to all the Early Access games, there has also been loads of old titles that have been recently "released" into Steam ("shovelware" as TotalBiscuit calls them). I wonder how many actual finished, new releases there have been on Steam so far this year?

I'm assuming you're referring to AAA titles, as there are plenty of quality, low priced small fun games.

Not every game has to be a billion dollar franchise that would make Michael Bay have wet dreams, there are SO many fun games that, for a couple of quid, you get a few hours of entertainment.

It's not just early access and green light, steam has recently opened the flood gates for re-releases of old games and ports of phone/tablet games.
It buries anything that doesn't have a massive ad campaign behind it.

Kingdom Rush is so stupidly entertaining, and polished at that, that I can certainly agree on that. And while I wasn't particularly impressed with Titanfall (or somewhat thematically similar games), I loved SR IV.

I've recently got curious about a relatively little known RPG called Fearless Fantasy, as well as what I hope to be a huge thing which is a game called Transistor (Bastion fans will already know it by now).

Not enough. That's like 4 games in the last 6month. Nothing of note for this year so far. Watch dog may be the first.

Thanks for the tips - I'll look those up. Although the latest Wolfenstein looks like it could be good (at least when they fix the crashes and reported graphical bugs). Fire Wolfie up last night (downloaded in quiet time) and managed to get a good 10 minutes into the start before it blue screened. No sign of the screen tearing and texture pop up reported, and that was on "High" quality mode.

Hmm, I'm cynical about Watch Dogs - be impressed if it manages to live up to the hype that arisen around it. Plus remember it IS a Ubisoft production, so it'll be avoidably flawed in some way surely? Saying that, I did toy with the idea of a Steam pre-order last night, only didn't because I haven't found a "hacking" based game yet that appealed more than 5 minutes. Think I'll have another look at the trailers etc and see if it's worth a punt.

I posted earlier about the exponential rise in the number of games on steam. There's too much choice if you ask me, compared to how many hours I have to spend gaming at least! I now have to be very selective.

if there are more steam games launched it's because today you are forced to use steam in 90% of the games.
I hate steam with a passion , and they're taking over the market

Why do you hate Steam? I'm interested because most people (who expressed an opinion I've seen) seem to quite like it. Sure it's got some annoyances, but what digital distribution system hasn't? And it certainly seems to be a LOT more liked than either Origin or uPlay.

In fact the most-oft expressed complaint is that the frequent sales mean a lot of shuffling of data to fit your collection on the disk space available. I'm getting that way myself - thinking that a 500GB SSD would be plenty of space for all my apps - then again that 40GB+ Wolfenstein download made a good dent in my available space.
