Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

Eight cores, 16 threads, DDR4 memory and new boards. What's not to like?

Core i7-5820K has a decent price, but i guess pc users wont replace the 4770k/4790k with this one.
the speed and the TDP doesnt make it to appealing for an average pc user, maybe for pros in image industry ,i would not like the noise of cooling these monsters.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

    Nope.

    Too expensive for me.
    Dont need the cores.
DDR4 is expensive and probably performs about the same/worse than high speed DDR3 right now.

TO be honest, unless games suddenly need more than a mainstream i7, i dont see myself ever be upgrading to the HEDT platform.

I'd certainly like to replace my ageing i5-2500K with an i7-5820K and experience the joys of DDR4, but my wallet says no.

DDR4 was one of my checklists for upgrading from my 950, so maybe, just waiting for it to mature a bit, like a good cheese.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

It would be nice if I could, but I have a heap of other outdated gear to upgrade, so the budget is too tight for X99/5820K/DDR4. So, I'll pass.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

I am more interested in getting myself a new monitor as the second screen I have is not doing so well with it buzzing louder than my computer speakers and fans, when it feels like it of course. Essentially I need a new monitor and I have something in mind but need better graphics card so platform wise I won't be upgrading in a few years at least. 16GB of 2400MHz DDR3 memory and the FX 8350 with Asus ROG motherboard seems like a good enough combination for a few years still.

I like the DDR4 but won't be upgrading. Will be an interesting read this weekend.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

My money is going to MSI.

    From http://us.msi.com/product/mb/X99S_GA...hero-overview:

STEAMOS SUPPORT OUT OF THE BOX

MSI is committed to PC Gaming and that is why MSI GAMING motherboards support SteamOS by default. Because of this, MSI works close with numerous tier #1 system integrators that released their popular SteamBOX PCs.
Linux properly supported by the vendor. Yay!

The platform looks solid but my Z77/i7-3770 combo will last a good while longer I think.

Only if I won the lottery. That's a horrendous outlay.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

At one time I would have considered it but for now I will stick with my overclocked i2500k - in fact the next move I will be making is a mini-itx with a low powered celeron ...

I'm very tempted, still can't decide whether to upgrade to X99 or Z97. I won't have the cash for a few months anyway, so hopefully prices may have dropped a little and any teething problems will have been sorted out

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

    Maybe.
It's the DDR4 price putting me off, not so much the CPU and Motherboard. That plus I don't like being first on the new technology tree - stung enough times by that one!

Everytime Intel comes out with a new motherboard chipset these days, you have to buy a new processor as well.
    NOT HAPPENING!

Sticking with my i7 2600 and my P67 for the next 5 years.Fast enough as it is

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

    No.
I'm going to wait for Skylake, i hope by that time DDR4 will be faster & cheaper, and we should get DMI 3.0 with the 100 series chipsets (Sunrise Point) so instead of being crippled with only 20 Gbit/s between CPU and chipset we should get 8 GT/s.
