Screenshots: Half Life 2 for X-Box

Hmmm, Half Life 2 for the X-Box, proof, if it were needed, that you don’t need an Uber graphics card to run Valve’s classic…

And there's plenty more where they came from over on HEXUS.gaming.

Looks ok and should be great for Xpox people. Still luff playing it at 1600 x 1400 with max detail and AA/AF cranked

Not bad, should be good for a bit of multiplayer fun. Can't beat keyboard and mouse! HL2 was something of an anticlimax for me though

Agreed, HL2 belongs on the PC but it will be fun for the xbox troupe to get a sniff of what we have - easier to setup a LAN too.

and what do you mean hl2 was an anti-climax? I spent 3 days not talking to my family at Christmas playing that game - shrugged off my crimbo lunch and even didn't go to see my family just so I could explore each level on my first try (on hard of course).

Well the finish is famously poor... I mean, compared with the rest of the game, it sucked so badly ten feet of garden hose and a golf ball would've been no trouble for it.

Sure, it is a very, very good game, very absorbing and well scripted, but it did over-do the physics engine just a bit... such as the sand lion levels where you had to stay off the sand, they went on far too long in my opinion.

The souped up gravity gun arrived way too late in the game too, that weapon was awesome and they could have done so much more with it...

Well putting the storyline aside, graphically it just didn't impress me as much as I'd hoped. Maybe it would have done if it were launched on the original release date but titles like Doom3 took the shine off of it imo

Thats crap, why not crack the graphics up and release it as a X360 game? That would guarantee a fair few Xbox's sold

Prolly cos there's already an installed user base of X-Box owners, and it's gonna be far cheaper and quicker to crank the GFX down for a PC to X-Box port than it will be to re-jig the code to shine on the XBox 360..

And I reckon that HL2 struck a MUCH better balance between graphics and gameplay than Doom3 even came close to wishing it could dream of ever doing...

Yes, Doom 3 looked awesome, but it had the depth of a puddle and was more linear than a railway line... People bang on about how cool the backgrounds were with the machines and everthing... fine and good but you couldn't interact with them in any way and often there was a rail or a lump of glass in the way to prevent you getting anywhere near them, which served only to enhance the feeling of being on a pretty fairground ride rather than playing a shooter...

And what the hell is this 'suspense' people talked about? Yeah, I guess Doom 3 kind of had some 'nail-biting' moments in it... if you have the memory of a goldfish and are so gullible as to not think that the inviting ammo pack over there isn't going to trigger off loads of bad guys... just like the previous fourty ammo packs before it..

I've said it before and I'll say it now, Doom 3 is a great graphics engine looking for a game.
