    Hosting-unlimited hacked

    Anybody a member of their forums receiving e-mails to that effect? The address I'm receiving them too is solely one for their forums, which leads me to believe it's true, especially as the forums are now inaccessible.

    Update:

    No more news from HU on this yet, however HEXUS does now have an article on the matter:
    In what can only be seen as an embarrassment to any company, Hosting-Unlimited, provider of web hosting solutions, appears to have had its own forums hacked.

    On the evening of Wednesday 16th, members of the Hosting-Unlimited forums started receiving mail outs from the forum's mass mailing facility, containing a proclamation that the site had been hacked. It is believed that the forums were powered by vBulletin.

    Maybe it's someone who's annoyed with their service lately?

    This whole migration thing they're doing has been a complete mess IMO, my site with them was suffering tremendous problems (serious server side lag, php critical errors, pages not loading, site not responding) and after a day or so of complaining they migrated me to the new cluster saying there would be no downtime. Well, after 12 hours of downtime my site was back up and running.

    Not impressed, considering their usual excellent levels of service. Still, everything is fine now, that's what matters.

    :edit: I didn't receive a mail though regarding this, I failed to mention that bit!

    HU dont host their own site or forums, none of the servers they have are affected

    not just his forums (allthough i guess this is how they got in) i had a scam e-mail sent from the servers yesterday for the "Halifax Security Center" i did try to phone them as soon as i got the e-mail but the number only goes to an answering machine. The link in the e-mail does now produce a 404 error.

    This is laughable.

    We have used them for almost 2 years to host our site and forums. All was well, until about 6months ago when we started to get performance problems, which they could not explain and only fixed by moving us to a different server. This problem and "solution" continued about 3 times culminating in THEM LOSING almost 10days worth of site content recently in their latest migration of our site to another new server.

    Several strongly worded emails later - their MD still refused to take responsibilty, blaming our lack of backups for the loss.

    Needless to say we are looking for a new host asap.....

    So does Hexus use them too?

    *Edit* - Yeah we got the hacked emails too

    You should always keep backups of your site, most hosts don't keep proper backups.

    I've used HU for about a year now, they are ok. They are cheap but you get what you pay for. It was either pay over 100 quid a year to 34sp or 20ish to hu I went with hu.

    hmm strange just had some trouble with HU n the last few days too. They suspended my account for an inexplicable reason. I imagine that had something to do with the migration because without explaining why i had been suspended they just told me that they'ed moved my hosting to a new server

    I think you read wrong. The poor performance has been with the websites they host, not their own website/forums. It's been going on ever since the "migration" of their old hosting servers to the new cluster they have, it's been really quite bad for some time (some have been complaining for over a month).

    What they did to my site was suspend my account on my old server (Nyx) and copy everything over to the new cluster. They did this so nothing was uploaded or saved to the databases etc on the old server and nothing was lost. However, as the DNS propegated, the site appeared down (or suspended, depending on which server the domain was pointing to) for quite some time.
