    Orange SPV 3100

    Hi all,

Just been into the Orange shop regarding my upgrade. I intentionally went in their to look at the SPV m700 but didn't like it. The white looks horrible and it feels cheap. The M3100 on the other hand looked amazing, loved the Qwerty keyboard and it was very fast. It got a great review from http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile...-Smartphone/p1

Has anyone got this handset and what do they think?

    Thanks again all

    Darren

Whats it like as a regular phone? I spoke to someone at Orange and they think unless i'm going to make use of the features on the phone it's probably going to give me more hassle than it's worth. Is it that bad as a regualr phone?

I will use it on my home Wifi and i'll probably sync it with my Mac. I also made plans to get co pilot satnav. But if what Orange are saying is true then maybe i should go for a different model?

Any one know what the battery life is like? It says 6 days, but in the real world we all know that doesn't happen? or does it? can anyone confirm?

I've had this phone since it came out on Orange and I've never regretted it. The actual PDA side of it I only ever use for tomtom and reading ebooks. The only way it'll hassle you over other phones will be it's size, it's certainly bigger than most smartphones.

Battery life ain't bad considering what it is. 6 days may be doable if you never touch it, make a call and It'll drop quite fast. Mines normally charged every other night, not because it needs it - I don't have a car charger so don't want the battery dieing if I suddenly use tomtom for a while. With the odd call it'll certainly last 4 days or so.

With tomtom on it will last maybe 7 hours tops, and if youre making heavy use of the browsing itll last at most a day (as i discovered when i initially got it and set it to check for email every 20 mins.)

As a phone its quite useable, but if you arent going to use any of the extras dont bother. THings mine gets used for (in descending order of frequency):
RSS feeds (engadet, inq and bbc news sees me through the first half of the journey to work when im not studying)
    TomTom
    Email
    Games (Namely Sudoku)

If you just want it for copilot/tomtom have a look at the MDA Compact III aka spv m<insert random nuber here> as it has a built in gps reciever, which will save on battery life, and although it lacks a keyboard, i get on very well with the WM5 handwriting recognition software.

Thanks guys. Going to take another look at the m3100 and m700. I might wait for the Nokia N95 as it seems like another killer phone.

    Will post my decision...

    Thanks again

I thought the same about the m700 when I first saw it! Black casing would have been better. I have an m600 and that looks great.

Have you looked at the O2 XDA Orbit or are do you plan to stay with Orange? Mind you its not going to be cheap but features are impressive.

Well i would like to stay with Orange. I did have a bad spell but i sent me an email to complain and they have been so helpful offering me the package i wanted.

I'm going to speak with someone who is an expert on Windows mobile today.

Just thought I'd mention I am very pleased with mine (the t-mobile Vario 2 which is same fone) and it seems that CPW have a strange anomaly in being HUGELY cheaper than direct from T-Mobile!??!!?
